Going to take the rear driveshaft to get looked at in the next day or so. I'll likely need a new one, not sure. How much is reasonable for a new shaft, and is there anything I can request (thicker tubes, better parts, etc.) that will improve durability and be good bang for the buck?

I recently had a custom rear shaft built by Front Range Driveline. While it's an awesome shaft and they used all new Spicer components, if I had to do it again I would measure it myself and order from one of the Bronco shops (Horses, Tom's etc). It's about 1/2 the price and most likely similar quality.

I was planning on starting with them. I went back and took a look at the driveshaft shop thread and it looked like several club members have had good experiences with these guys.

you didn't say what's wrong with it ?

Lots of slop. I've definitely got a bad U-joint in the CV section, not sure if the CV itself is bad or not. Need to pull it apart and take a look. I'm frankly not sure of how much play is acceptable, but i'm thinking not much.

the slip yolk should have some play but there should be zero in the cv's , i just did the ones on shawn gregg's bronco and there about 14.00 apiece and take about 2 hours to replace all of them . no special tools needed other than a grease gun .
