After shopping around a little for EFI intakes I'm seeing prices for 5.8L GT40 lowers. How does the GT40 setup compare to the Mustang intake? There are loads of 5.8L conversions lowers out there that appear to mate to the mustang upper.

Update: I may have a line on both a cast iron GT40 lower and an Edelbrock mustang style upper and lower. The Edelbrock strikes me as the better option for similar money, correct?

From what I have read the round staggered gt40 setup flows better and the explorer intake has slightly longer runners for better torque.

I think the cast iron gt40 lowers were used in marine applications but I could be mistaken. There are differences in them with the others but don't think the differences were substantial. They tend to be cheaper too.

Sounds like you'd be good with either system you chose. Being that is the case, I would go for the lightest and most economical.

The gt 40 lower is the expensive part. The explorer upper is cheap from a junk yard. My project has been at a standstill since buying all the necessary parts. With the intake, heads, 351 roller block, and Explorer fuel injection parts I have 1500 invested and I still need to rebuild the engine. (Coming very soon)

I found my gt 40 lower on ebay. I got it for around 400 with shipping. I am told that was a good deal. The cast gt 40 came on marine motors. Aluminum came from lightnings and the mustang cobra "R".
