Re: Holly cross
I unfortunately can't come up Friday night. How long does it take to get to the trailhead from like I-70 and C-470?

Re: Holly cross
Starting early is a good plan. Lots of camping options along the Forest Service Rd. or I am sure you might be able to find something in Leadville. Trailhead is still another 30 minutes or so outside Leadville IIRC. French Creek can become a parking lot later in the morning. I'd try to start the trail between 8 & 9 if feasible.

Need to start early in the morning, that trail is consistently backed up at French creek before noon.

Re: Holly cross
I've penciled this into my calendar. I'll be towing my Bronco up and can be there whenever. About 2 hours from my house.

Re: Holly cross
My uncle and I are in on the 27th. We will be leaving my house around 5:30-6 a.m. to be there by about 8 a.m. as long as we don't have any problems on the way up. This will be the first long tow for my new engine in my truck so there is always that unknown but I have towed more than my bronco several times and it has done quite well. My uncle will be in his full size bronco with a SAS, 37s and locked front and rear and I'll have my bronco, of course.

Re: Holly cross
Talked to a friend and he said the gold park forest camp ground was a good place for trailers. What do you guys think about camping there Friday night and heading out from there.

Re: Holly cross
I'm still trying to make this run but developed a fuel problem over the week end and don't have much free time between now and the trip.
Fingers crossed.

Re: Holly cross
Sorry for all of the questions-- I am really trying to see if I can make this happen or not. It sounds like you guys are considering getting on the trail no later than 9am, correct? Also-- how long will this trail typically take (sans any major breakdowns)?

Re: Holly cross
I'm still a maybe. I've got the front end of my rig back together and the rear locker fixed, but am not sure if I'll wine up with enough time to get it totally road worthy. Also working out some work stuff.

Re: Holly cross
I was planning on camping Friday and Saturday nights. Trying to get out right after work on Friday but have a deadline. Trying to hit the road by 3 on Friday, but could be closer to 5.

Holly cross
Same here working out some details. Might be Friday morning before I know what's going on but for sure won't be out of Denver before 5.
Last couple times I have run it was a couple long days due to trail traffic. But if French creek isn't backed up should be half day.
