Aug 23 - Hancock Pass, Williams Pass, Tomichi Pass
I am headed to Buena Vista again this weekend and wanting to run Williams Pass which is only open for one month a year - August.
I am wanting to start on the Buena Vista / Salida side obviously and will want to run it from TInCup, up over Hancock pass then right to the Alpine Tunnel road then over WIlliams Pass. Williams Pass loops back and meets Hancock Pass near the top - but instead of running the road to Alpine I wanted to do Tomichi Pass and then out to Hwy 50 and back to Bunea Vista area.
Its about 6 - 7 hours on the trail from pavement to pavement with spectacular views and some really fun sections.
The way in is easy... so is the way out, WIlliams can be a challenge with rocks, mud and more... I hear its fun but don't want to run it alone as the mud bogs can be pretty challenging and not sure there is anything to winch to...
Anyway seeing if anyone is up for a wheeling trip up that way, I have a free place to camp both friday and saturday night near Buena Vista and there is plenty of room.
Let me know - i plan on leaving Friday early evening.
Hancock Pass WIlliams Pass

Re: Aug 23 - Hancock Pass, Williams Pass, Tomichi Pass
I'll do it! I haven't done Williams. Not sure what my schedule is like, I might camp Friday night, but I might just meet you early Saturday.
edit: I'm a little unsure of the route you want to take. Anyways I'm in. Start Williams on the west side? Then Hancock, then Tomichi?

Re: Aug 23 - Hancock Pass, Williams Pass, Tomichi Pass
JT hope you can make it. Looking forward to this!
I haven't done Tomichi pass either. I have ridden to the top, from the south/HWY 50 side on snowmobiles a few times. I have friends who live in Sargents and are avid sled heads. Jarrod says Tomichi is a steep scree field, with a very narrow trail.

I did tomichi years ago, right after I did the full width swap, great trail! Spooky with full width axles though, the shelf road is really narrow! I wish I could go with you guys

I may have to postpone or cancel this (at least me going) - not sure yet as I have pressing issues at work that might take a day out of my weekend. I will know more tomorrow.

Well?
If not tomorrow, I'm down to do this next weekend if it works for anyone.

Re: Aug 23 - Hancock Pass, Williams Pass, Tomichi Pass
Ya work calls.. one of the RARE times I have to work over a weekend.
Sucks cause I really wanted to do Williams pass thats only open in Aug, but guess there is always next year.
I am in Snowmass next weekend (Labor Day) with my wife otherwise I would be all over it.
Sorry for the rug being pulled out from under this, not usually my style but working this weekend was unexpected.
I can do Sept runs.. have the Holy Cross run on the books and could do a few others...
