Shake down cruise camping and fishing adventure
Ok all of you "while I'm at it" project guys...........here is some motivation to get your rig on the road Last year I went on a bike trip and we stayed at this campground one night and it was a great spot. We did some fishing and drinking around the fire. It would be a great spot for a group of Bronco people to hang out. https://www.nps.gov/blca/planyourvisit/ ... portal.htmI'm totally flexible on dates but would prefer a long week end later in the summer when it's nice and warm. 1) what wheeling opportunities are in the area ? 2) who is interested ?

Re: Shake down cruise camping and fishing adventure
In the immediate vicinity it looks a little thin using the trails on Traildamage.com. I'll guess there is something close, but kept secret by locals.

I might be interested depending on timing and if I can get my rig back on the road this year.

Re: Shake down cruise camping and fishing adventure
I'm interested, but don't know that area well. There are lots of trails around Montrose, but I don't know them. The trails are south west of Montrose, I think. Here is a little info to get started: http://www.visitmontrose.com/204/Off-Roadinghttp://ws4w.com/?page_id=2291

Re: Shake down cruise camping and fishing adventure
I float and fish the Gunnison below the black canyon every Fathers Day weekend (its amazing - no wife, no kids.... just 3 days of rafting, camping and fishing - what better way to spend Fathers Day?) and highly recommend it. That said - I am not aware of any "real" wheeling in the area.
I am absolutely interested (though there is no way my Bronco will be ready to go)

Re: Shake down cruise camping and fishing adventure
No real wheeling there close. However there are trails around there once you come back to Hwy 50. We ran cattle above crystal Dam down to Bostwick park & my Mom worked for the Bureau of Reclamation & did inventory at the dams. It is a steep descent, about 16% if memory serves, but completely worth it with incredible views and great trout fishing. From the Black Canyon you could run up to Cimarron & take Owl Creek Pass ( I grew up on the Sleeping Indian Ranch, which is on the Ridgway side of Owl Creek Pass & ran cows up there too.) back toward Ridgway. There's some hard core trails up there, but the aren't really listed. Silverjack Reservoir is up there & you can hike to the top of Courthouse. That's all where I grew up. Wish my Bronco was done so I could go.

You need to come up and guide us, Bronco or not. Thanks!

My rig should be operational by the end of the month. It's driveable now, but I want to finish some stuff up before it call it good.

Re: Shake down cruise camping and fishing adventure
I think that would be ok. Waiting on a schedule from my parents regarding their summer visit.
Edit: I'm good with that weekend.

Re: Shake down cruise camping and fishing adventure
We are packed and headed up next week for the summer -- bringing a tent and all the camping junk that will fit in the Bronco that we're driving up. I'm down with a trip like this if part-time residents are allowed!
