TX Broncos in CO! LEBC Lonestar Bronco Mountain Ride

Postby Scoop » Mon Jan 08, 2018 8:51 am

This is Gary Gibson, President of Lonestar Early Bronco Club AND part time resident of the great state of Colorado! A small group of our members attended the All-4-Fun event in Leadville this past summer and had a great time. So we decided to have a low-key Club event in CO in 2018 instead of joining a Jeep event again. We are planning a trip to the Ouray/Silverton/Tellluride area in July and we'd love to have some CO Broncos join us - we certainly don't want to step on any CCB toes when setting this up. In fact if we get a big turn out we may need some trail guides familiar with the area!

Here is the announcement we sent to our members:

WHERE AND WHEN
Lonestar Early Bronco Club is heading to the Mountains of Colorado. We will be wheeling for 5 days starting July 16, 2018 and ending July 20, 2018.

OVERVIEW
We will headquarter out of beautiful Ouray, Colorado. The Ouray RV Park and Cabins will be our staging area each day. They have allotted us 12 pre-booked campsites, also providing a meeting room each day to plan the next day's activity. From there we will be going on trails in the Ouray and Silverton area. We plan to have leaders for these trail rides that will take us out, from a few hours to all day. These will be of various difficulty, with most being able to be handled by stock to street-modified Broncos.
For each day we wheel, plan on bringing a lunch and refreshments because you will be on the trail most of the day without possible access to food and/or supplies. Wednesday will be an open day to explore on your own, or have the opportunity to do what you or family would want to do in the area.

REGISTRATION
LEBC's website has the registration form for the event with a link on the LEBC Facebook site. There is no cost registering for this event. For those registering for the camp sites you will need to contact Ouray RV Park and Cabins directly by phone to secure your pre booked site. Per Ouray RV management, you can make the process of registering smoother and more convenient by sending them an email first with your information on it, then they will contact you at your designated best time to call. See below.

!!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!
IF YOU PLAN ON SECURING ONE OF THE PRE-BOOKED RV SITES, THIS BOOKING NEEDS TO BE DONE BY YOU NO LATER THAN JANUARY 15th of 2018. IF YOU PLAN ON GETTING ANY OTHER LODGING, DO IT EARLY. EVERYTHING IS ALREADY FILLING UP.

ALTERNATE LODGING

Sounds like a blast. I hope you have a good turnout! If you happen to be short on trail guides, and you don't mind a Jeep in the group, my dad my be interested. Just need a good heads up.

Hey, thanks for the positive responses! We've got about 16 signed up as committed or interested so far. If we get a few more we'll need to break into groups and have multiple trail rides per day. If so we probably could use a CO trail leader or 2. If you are interested in being a trail leader for a group even for just a day let me know! I'd like to keep the groups at 10 or under. I've done most of the trails in the area, but not all. The main trails we're looking at are Black Bear - Imogene, Mineral Creek - Poughkeepsie Gulch - Corkscrew, Yankee Boy - Governors Basin, Kendall Mountain to Silverton. And we've selected some alternative trails for those not wanting to do Black Bear or Poughkeepsie. These are not set in stone and any recommendations would be welcome - especially if we have to do more than one group per day.

And it probably is a good idea for y'all to be keeping an eye on us "damn Texins"! LOL

Black Bear is on the trail schedule for Friday the 20th. But if we add more trail rides each day we'll probably have a group doing do it another day as well.

I was hoping to make it but there's just to much going on in 2018 for me to sneak down there, maybe 2019 though. A lot of folks don't head up there but I always like taking folks to the Buffalo Boy mine fun little trail with a cool old tram house up on top.

Steve, I was hoping you could join us. If this works out to be a good event we'll do it in '19 as well. Maybe Buena Vista or Leadville?? Buffalo Boy Mine looks interesting. We might be able to do it the same day we do Kendall Mt.

Buena Vista would be fun haven't been there in awhile good campground there also. https://www.chalkcreek-campground.com/ I'm club president of the Black Hills 4 Wheelers so our yearly event eats up a good deal of my vacation time.

Yeah Buena Vista is probably my favorite basecamp. Where the trails aren't as scenic as Ouray, they are still beautiful and offer more variety of difficulty!

To let a little bit of a cat out of the bag, we have been kicking around the idea of doing an event here in Colorado and basing it out of the Buena Vista area - we are discussing and will probably do a "dry run" with CCB members this summer to work through the trails and logistics before opening it up. Like i said this is preliminary and in no way is a final decision, a few of us have only kicked it around... :)

What I just read is that you are leading an annual CCB event based out of BV, and we'll do the first one this summer! :-)

Let's get some dates and do it! Lemme know how I can help (we'll need something to do once we get back from Baja!)

First, I am excited that there is now some talk about a Colorado Club event in the future!

Second, If you are intending to come to the LEBC event this July please do sign up on our web site. We will be using this registration list for sending out additional information or updates which may NOT be posted here on CCB. So if you are not registered you may miss out on important new information. We have about 20-25 either committed or interested.

You can sign up here: https://lebc.clubexpress.com/content.as ... _id=280231

Another quick update - We're about 6 weeks out now! We've had a couple drop out and then some folks on the waiting list move up. So we're still keeping the registration number at 30. In order to keep the trail groups manageable we plan on splitting up into 2-3 groups depending upon how many show up each day. So we are looking for a couple of trail leaders for a couple of the days. If you are interested in leading a trail, please let me know! Thanks!
