‘78-79 D60 Kingpin
Some consider them over priced, others think they are the Holy Grail, but I’m in need of a new axle housing or a complete axle. I like farm fresh, but hopefully not pretzeled like my last find.
I know there are one or two listed on CL, but those have been highly modded and their price reflects that. I like axles that are nearly factory with simple improvements so I can still get parts at the regular parts stores.
TIA

Not entirely sure on your needs but '88 - '91 F350's also had king pin Dana 60's, believe it changed to something else mid '91.

Re: ‘78-79 D60 Kingpin
Unfortunately, most consider the 78/9 HP Ford D60 to be the Holy Grail of axles and the price is reflective of that. Gone are the "barn" finds for $500... You're lucky to find a fairly stock used one for $1300 these days. Chevy guys have found that they work nice in their HD IFS rigs (that's another discussion... let's make up an artificial category of truck and call it 'Heavy Duty' and put IFS on it so we can beat 'FORD' in some make believe sector they don't compete in... OK, off soap box).
That said, you can probably pick up a later housing and extend the driver side/cut down the passenger side for equal or less $$. My $.02 and it's worth exactly what you paid for it... HTH, Joe
