Post 2x5 vs. tube sliders
Going to be cutting off the rockers and installing rock sliders soon. Any experienced suggestions on doing 2x6 tube vs. 2x4 with a 1.5" tube rub rail?

I used 2x6 tubing because I liked the strength, support where rollbar attaches and i thought it added a little protection from a possible side impact. Drawbacks are that it pinches the space needed for the 2nd fuel tank and it can leave your rig looking like it’s wearing too short a skirt (if there is such a thing). I welded up a 2x2 tube below the 2x6 to give the body the needed size there. This then left the body level with the bottom of the frame.

I am running what I recall as being 2x3 laying flat and the same behind it in a vertical position effectively creating an L shape which ends up being 5" W x 3" tall. I did this because mine are only welded to the body, which I think is a mistake. But they are very strong and have had the whole weight of the bronco on them. The body just can't take much of that.

Mine are just a 2x3x1/4" with legs bolted to the frame. I built the same style on my 79 out of 2x2. Being frame mounted it keeps the stress and abuse off the already weak body after you cut the rockers off. I have tested them on chinamans gulch with zero issues. Now the low hanging gas tank thats a different story.
