Alright, so I am redoing my bronco to be all black basically, and one of the last things in the interior that needs to go from white to black is the dash.

For awhile I thought, hmm, Can I do this without taking it off? (Last resort)

Then I thought nope, but then I was talking to my girlfriend about it and she suggested using painters tape. I thought, good Idea! But the thing is that when I tried painting the door pannels without stripping the white paint off first it was a mess.

So is there some sort of really tacky black paint I can get or perhaps ill paint strip around the painters tape and stuff?

I require suggestions.

If you are not going to strip it mechanically (grinder, flap wheels, etc.) or chemically, I think at a minimum you need to knock down what is on there now with a green Scotchbrite pad or equivalent. You new paint needs some thing to stick to.

It's all in the prep work.

I'll be doing the same in the near future. What paint would you guys suggest and what about the random drill holes.

with JGZ man you will be mad later, its all about prep work. it may look ok if u just go for it, but 6 months later it may start cracking or chipping, it took me 2 days start finish to do my dash, it took 3 hours to disconnect n label every thing thats where i found a few of my pull levers were not even hooked up right. glovebox is a little painful but life is good and now i stand back and you can be proud of it

i used a rubber based paint, after hard top goes, i want 100% ready to go even in rain/ or SNOW... ....... im buying water proof speakers new military grade rubber/rhino lined ish

Pull the dash. You can do it in under an hour, and you want to check the wiring anyway. The painting results will be significantly better and I'm guessing you'll save a significant amount of prep time. Finally, you won't be risking the finish on the bezels. Get the tool to undo them from one of the vendors. It's $11 well spent.

Remove the dash. It is not a bad job at all. And, if you have a little extra $$$, get it powder coated. It will wear much better, plus it is something you are always looking at.

all good ideas, i am going to order a dash bezel remover pronto.
