Post Child Seats in Bronco
Hope you guys can help. I am few months way off from ordering seats for my Bronco Project. I have narrowed my search down and have decided that I am going Corbeau. I am currently getting my Father-in-Law in Utah (who owns an Automotive Shop started in 1960) set-up as a Corbeau Dealer. This should help some of the sting for this purchase and it appears that Corbeau has its Customer Service Department in Utah. When he becomes a Corbeau Dealer, I will list this in the Vendor Section.

I have looked at 100 seats and feel that the Corbeau line of Suspension Seats is the best value - great color selection, materials, sizes, prices, technology, quality, availability, warranty, customer service, etc. BTW Great website http://www.corbeau.com you can see each seat in a Jeep - this helps you see the actual size of the bolsters, seat back height, headrest option, scale, etc.

Question: I have a 5-Year old and 18-Month old - Can a true 5-Point Harness installed in a thru-bolted racing seat count as Car Seats?

On the child car seats, the quick answer is no, you cannot use a 5-point harness as a replacement of the child seat.

I have a 20 month old & a 5 year old as well & I made my own brackets for a LATCH type system that bolts under the seatbelts in the rear. For my 5 year old, he is now out of the child seats, but is still required to use a booster seat, I use a 3 point harness with both shoulder straps & lap belt. I can take some pictures this weekend of my setup if you want me to just so you can see what I did. I have even had my uncle, who is a sheriff deputy, comment on how he likes the setup.

Thanks a ton for the good info. I was hoping for yes's but expected no's. I would love to see your set-up if you have a pic. A booster won't be so bad but buckling a Child seat in the back seat of a 2 door with fixed front seats is going to be a little harder but not any harder than a 5-Point would be. I may look at installing LATCH system as well. Thanks again for the feedback.

I will keep you all updated on the Corbeau Hook-up.

$0.02

As an FYI I was looking at Corbeau and was wanting to have them add the hole for the crotch strap and they said that I could get the seats, then cut it and have a seamstress sew the edges or I could have one custom built for the price of the seat and an additionial $500. !!!!
I wasnt wanting to pay that much for a seat and then cut holes in it.

So instead I ordered a full set of Beards Redart.com for very similiar cost, they are made in USA and as custom as I want. with only a $15 charge to add the crotch strap hole.

My kids are smaller too, but think about 5-7 years from now when they will be preteen, then you can strap them in 5 point and know they arent going any where.

Mine should be here hopefully by next weekend so we'll see how they turn out.
cant wait

I just wasnt overly pleased with CB and the limited customization.

Brian

I always thought Beard was a premium (expensive) brand like MasterCraft. I cannot believe MasterCrafts are $500 per seat! WTH Anyway, I would love to see pics of the Beards installed and excited to hear your thoughts about install, materials, craftsmanship, quality, comfort, etc.

I do know the Corbeau Suspension Seats ALL have the 5th hole in the seat section, but it does need to be added to the other classes of seats. BTW That is a rediculous price for adding a hole - no wonder you got frustrated and bought another brand seat.

I will check out the Beard website you posted. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and pics :)

I had a set of beards for my last bronco. they never made it in the truck but from what I dealt with them they were awesome. seats and the company.

I will let you know how they mount in.
I thought about spending the few 100 on the Bronco brackets but I will fab something first as I have already spent a grip of money in the short time I have had it.

I second the creating mounts - I am trying not to pay $100 per seat for 5 Point Seat Belt Harnesses and another $100 to mount them :)

Entourage, Man I am sorry for forgetting about this. Vragor was at my office yesterday picking up some tires and saw my child seats in the back end and asked if I had responded to your post. I completely spaced it out, so here are a few pictures of what I did. My older boy is now able to be in the booster, so I am using a 3-point harness that has both shoulder straps & the lap belt. It is easy for him to get into by himself and holds him down pretty good. Better than a regular single shoulder strap that is in my wife's Durango. The car seat is held in by a LATCH type setup that I built out of 3/8 rod. I bent it up myself and welded it together. Both the LATCH unit & the seatbelt unit are bolted through the original seatbelt anchor points. If you got questions, by all means, let me know.

That is really nice work! Very custom install and will definitely keep the punks safe. I will need something similar and appreciate your help. I am not back on the road till spring, so hopefully I will get to see yours in person before then. I may straight-up copy your design. Gregg will likely be copying that design as well - he has 2 punks same ages as mine.

Kinder had some really good seat mounting ideas. I think he wanted to do an E-Track mounting like BC Broncos did . . .

Then have the seat belt rack and mounts slide into the E-Track like yours.

I may be planning an E track (never knew they were called that! Always knew is as the Air Force rails) install as well, albeit not for child seats. I was thinking removable back seat and cargo box.

I talked to Chuck from BC and he said they don't advertise the tracks on the website, but they do carry them. Chuck told me to call Jason and Jason could hook me up with the order.

Mass buy?

Hey they're not Punks! Angels, Darlings...okay my kids are punks. What about mounts on the roll ball? Seems it would be more similar to current car set-ups.

The roll bar mount for a 3-point sholder strap is the ultimate because it can work for Child Seats AND Adults. The requirment there would be a family cage. I will have to look at my family cage (its in Utah) and see how the best way to mount. It will likely end up a hybrid of the ideas from this page. Thanks for all the input guys.
