Post Dismanteling a Door
I am in the auto body stage. I want to take apart my doors to make the body work (sanding, priming, painting) easier. I put my first door on saw horses last night to get started taking the door apart. I cannot believe how much engineering is involved in the doors! I want to remove the glass, wing windows, moldings, window channels, handles, locks, etc. so I can sand and paint them, clean all of the parts, replace any channels/moldings, then reinstall everything like new after the doors are painted.

I looked at the window glass for a long time and do not see how it could be removed.

Anyone taken them apart with any success? Any advice would be great. banghead

This would be a perfect tech class over a beer or two. Its actually simple once you have seen one come apart. A screw (below the vent glass) remove arm rest, remove interior door handle, remove trim cup, remove panel, remove two lower bolts on door, remove lower bolt on latch side of the door (which releases the window track) Once you get the panel off there is only one bolt the holds the window on the slide (up and down) once that off you'll be able to remove the window...................did I mention beers and me helping you out? idea

Billie

let me know when a good time is, I'd like to check out your ride anyway.

WOW! In 15 minutes I get answers to my all of my questions! This is amazing! Thanks a ton for all of the great advice. I spent more time staring at the door than it took for you guys to help out! Have I mentioned I love this club? I was a one man wolf pack . . .

I will take some pics as I work on it - helps me remember how the heck to get it back together :)

So true. That movie is the best. So excited for the second one - that may be an idea for a Bronco Meeting.

You guys are awesome - thanks a ton for the help and I will keep ya posted. I will be working on my project while you guys are doing the trail run - I am jealous! Have fun!

Got the door completely dis-assembled. Thanks for the advice - went smooth as could be. I need to price new weather stripping and channels. They look OK but I never want to take them apart after I get them all put together. I am sure the channels and weatherstripping are going to be a kick in the junk.

Thanks again, Chad.

Do yourself a favor and don't get your weather strip, or anything for that matter from LMC Trck Parts...garbage.

Bronco Hut is a good bet they deal with mostly Denis Carpenter goods.

Hey Billie,

I've heard bad things about LMC, but I really like the 4 spoke mahogany steering wheel they sell. Heard anything about those good or bad? If bad, know any local substitutes? One thing I like most about them is the ford emblem in the center.

Thanks,

A mahogany Steering Wheel would be very classy. I have never seen one in person and would love to see it in your Bronco. I found great prices on Grant Steering wheel deals on Amazon.com and I think Grant makes a wood steering wheel.
