Re: Entourage
Last week on the way to the Tech Day at Hockey's, the Trans had been slipping out of second gear and wouldn't shift into third. Even reverse had started to clunk. After work yesterday, ZOSO, ROX, and ViperWolf came by to pull my C-4. Removal went extremely smooth when you have people that have done this before, like ZOSO & Rox, and people who can do it their sleep like Viper. Thanks a ton for your help last night guys - would NEVER have dared to do this project without your help and expertise. Got started after work at 5:30 and were ing s around 8:00. When pulling the C4, we quickly noticed why we were pulling it - the oil was chocolate brown and smelled burnt. Rob and Phil noticed the transmission cooler line on the back of the Transmission was kinked and likely wasnt getting any flow. It was like this when I purchased it, so I drove it home from the sellers home in August 2010 and about 100 miles around town over the last couple weeks - that was enough miles to toast that C-4. The Torque Converter looked brand new so the trans may have been redone by the PO, just had a kink in the line when it was reinstalled. I am sad that I had to replace what appears to be a newer transmission already, but soon I will have a ViperBuilt C4, and be ready to drive to any mall in Colorado Thanks for the help last night guys!

Autopsy Report
It had been kind of reworked recently. Still had some fresh gaskets and front seal. Yet rear servo seal was hard as a rock and still had Ford part number on it. Direct clutches were toasted. Also had serious lube/cooling problems at the rear. Lots of toasted bushings, thrust washers and forward planet (all get lube from cooler return). One pump gear was installed upside down. Also wrong type of fluid was used.

Poor chad. Your running out of places to mall crawl. This weekend they are demoing the westminster mall.

I can't even remember the last time I went to the Mall - my truck may be more of a Village Inn / Costco Crawler

Re: Entourage
One more thing I found today. Pump bushing was installed backwards. Amateurs.
Also direct clutch inner piston seal was installed sideways. Leaking pressure there is what caused the clutches to burn.
I hope this was the PO's first and last attempt at C4 building.

It's ready.
There's always 1 last problem waiting to show itself. The main pressure regulator spring in the valve body was shattered. This C4 is like a cat-it has (had) nine lives.

That C4 was a problem waiting to happen. Viper is getting me back on the road this week - Wednesday or Thursday after 5 if anyone wants to come see the master at work. I will post up the final date/time. I wil have lots of Beers, Pizza, and great stories from Viper.

Re: Entourage
Viper and I were able to get the transmission installed. Things went extremely smooth. Viper knows exactly what to do and likely could do it blindfolded. We started at 5:30 and were having brews around 8:30. During the install, I found out that Viper installed a shift kit, opened up the cooling ports for increased cooling, painted it, installed upgraded parts, new seals, new vacuum, safety switch, torque converter, etc. and perform better than new. Viper also went through my Transfer Case and repaired any possible future leak points.
Over the weekend, I installed finished the small stuff from the transmission job like the dual exhaust, front and rear drive shafts, capped off radiator trans cooler lines, dip stick, skid plate, transmission fluid, transfer case gear oil, and a new fan plate-style transmission cooler under the Passenger seat that turns on at 180 degrees.
Yesterday afternoon, I was able to take my nephews out for a ride. It shifted great, no leaks, and seems to have a lot more power. Shifted smooth in and out of all 3 gears. Kickdown worked great to pass a car or hear the motor growl. Wife said the Bronco even sounds better at idle. I am excited to start putting more miles on it. I will likely start driving it to work on Fridays. It is nice to have the peace of mind that I can drive anywhere now.
There is NO WAY I could have done this without Viper. Thanks Man.

No, no, that's backwards! Nice work! Always cool to get the bronco out and about after it's been down a while. I think Costco was wondering if they'd ever see it again. J.D.

It's good to hear it's working nice Chad. There are actually 4 C4's I built before this one that have not yet seen the road (or the mall). I must be putting them together right.
