Fel-Pro 1250, 302, Dart Pro 1 Aluminum heads:

I bought a turn-key vehicle and never checked the timing. After a severe overheating mtn. drive, I checked it and found 26 base / 50 total (at 3000rpm). Cranking compression and leakdown are great. But, I still wouldn't have expected this.

I'm far from an engine guy, but over on another popular bronco site, I've seen this topic more than once with regard to fel-pro 1250 gaskets.

Seems like they had some years with poor performing gaskets.

I had the same issues with the 1250's. I replaced them with the 1250-S gaskets which have a steel core. Been working fine for the last 10K miles or so.

Well, there's your problem! Thanks for posting this up. I need to do mine sometime soon and might not have caught the issue.

Thanks for the input. The internet if FULL of crap about 1250 gasket issues, but I imagine there is a nasty-gram about everything on the 'net.

I've got a carb setup, so my intake comes off in about 20 minutes. I already bought a set of the standard 1250's, so I think I'll try it. Fel Pro 1250S3 is a $45 intake gasket.
