Starting to think about a 302 to 347...naw....427:) rebuild.
Here's the basic question....can I take the '70 block I have, get a machine shop to clean it up and bore it to fit one of the popular 347 stroker kits, then add a top-end kit and finish it off with a later model 5.0L EFI setup?

Re: Starting to think about a 302 to 347 Rebuild
I don't see why not. If you are looking for someone that can build it for you, send me a pm and I can get you his information. He is somewhat of an expert at helping people build an engine for their specific requirements. We were actually talking about this the other day. He has been thinking about some engine seminars to help people determine what they need to make the perfect engine combo.

Eric, as long as you are going to drop the coin on stroker kit, why not throw in the extra couple hundred for a roller block? Still get to drive your Bronco while it is getting built.

Re: Starting to think about a 302 to 347 Rebuild
I would avoid a 347. Limit the 302 to 331ci. When you get into the 347 range you start pushin small pistons and the wrist pins is in the oil control rings. Unless they have changed it up in the last few years.

Re: Starting to think about a 302 to 347 Rebuild
I talked to my buddy today, he is running a 349 CI right now in his Fairlane. He says he can get up to 352 or so with 060 overbore.
If you want to talk to him about building a nice strong stroker 302 for your EB send me a pm and ill get you his number.

Well, I thought about the 302 to 347...then found this for $200. Can you guess what's under the blanket? :)

From the contours of the blanket I'm going to say '96 351W roller block.

Exciting - you don't waste any time. Is it an EFI system? What was it out of?

Re: Starting to think about a 302 to 347 Rebuild
Yes, it came with full EFI but it's the truck version and from what I understand, not well suited to the Bronco.
It's out of a 1996 F350....rumor is it had around 48K miles on it before it was crashed.

Re: Starting to think about a 302 to 347 Rebuild
Sounds like a great findwith such low miles - congrats. I would guess it could be tuned to a Bronco. I think Booger and ZOSO are the John Lingenfelter and Reeves Callaway (GM tuners) of the Mustang world.

Re: Starting to think about a 302 to 347 Rebuild
That intake is definitely going to be the problem. If'n you are wanting to stick to the EFI (which I don't know why you wouldn't, except for the reasons I am about to lay out), you are going to want to start hunting for a 95 Cobra R or 1st Gen Lightning lower intake manifold and an Explorer/Mustang GT 40 upper intake. As far as I know, those two models of vehicle were the only ones that used the offset lower intake manifold and offset upper intakes. Of course, a complete intake setup from either the Cobra or Lightning will work as well. Lightning/Cobra R lower GT40 Upper I know J.D. is running an EFI 5.8L in his truck. I forget which intakes he has though.

Re: Starting to think about a 302 to 347 Rebuild
So which years cobra/lightning will work to swap everything over?
And I take it cobra/lightning refers to the intakes and not the vehicles they came in right? Sorry, learning here.

Re: Starting to think about a 302 to 347 Rebuild
So I take it this upper would work but the lower wouldn't? http://cosprings.craigslist.org/pts/2471507945.htmlAlso, can't you get an upper name plate made to indicate "5.8L" etc? Found one..not original but cool..... http://www.performancepartsinc.com/images/5_8intake.jpg

I would also check ford racing for this. I would like to do a similar setup with mine someday.

Ok. So I see a lot of GT40 5.0L uppers available. Is there any problem with flow restriction etc for the 351w or larger?
