Post replacement Ch**y body panels
We just started a restoration of a 72 Chevy pick up at work yesterday. We are going to need a few new body panels (fender, fender well, etc). We have an LMC Truck catalog, but the last LMC part we used was not the greatest. We replaced a dentside F150 door, and the skin wasn't even glued to the door shell. Since the customer supplied the part, we didn't protest, but we don't want to be installing substandard parts on this job. Does anyone have any suggestions for other vendors? Year one? Any experience/advice is appreciated.

Thanks
Chad

I've got a buddy who works next door whose done a 66 Chevelle and a 70 C-10. He recommended Year One or Classic Chevrolet Parts.

That's too bad, I ordered a few parts many years ago for a 72 Blazer I had from LMC and they were pretty good then. Shame they've gone down hill. Love those late 60's early 70's Chevy's though. Is it one with the wood bed?

No wood bed. Its a 4x4 w/a 350, medium red. Pretty nice, some rust, some old repairs. The owner just put in a rebuilt engine & trans. We aren't a resto shop, but insurance work is very slow, so the shop owner is giving a friend a "deal" to get the truck in. It will turn out nice, we've been given the green light to "make it cherry". It will certainly help flesh out the paychecks for a while.

So many people drop off cars and cheap out. Believe it or not, we are just finishing a 62 Ferrari 250GT (one of 365 total 250GTs). The owner won't spend the money for a new hood seal, because "its like $200." I hate that we had any part in the body work, it has been done so wrong. I think it could be a car worth over $300,000 if it had been done right. But I learned long ago, to not question what a customer wants, just take their money & give them what they ask for.

Year one and there is a company known as goodmark industries I believe they are the two main choices for GM body panels and other various reproduction parts.

Thanks for the replies, due to the deal the guy is getting, fixing the body panels is still cheaper than buying new ones. That is fine with me, I'll take the hours. We are stripping ALL the old paint off, good thing, there is lots of surface rust lurking under the old paint, probably only a couple years before it would have gone to hell.

The hacked Ferrari:

This car is a mess, if any of your friends are in the market for a 250GT, tell them to run, not walk, away from this one. It has been put into a lake and had a significant impact with a tree. The wheel base is not square, the hood had to be "customized" to fit over the air cleaner. The current owner was installing the rear axle, with the car on a BOTTLE JACK (I thought doctors were smart), and it fell on him, almost killed him. If his wife hadn't randomly checked on him, he wouldn't have lasted much longer. Funny, the owner wouldn't accept that there was something wrong keeping the hood from shutting and didn't want to change his air cleaner, because it wouldn't be "stock", and would devalue the car. Meanwhile he paints the car silver, not the original red, because red was too "generic." He claims he won't be able to afford to insure it when its done, so he plans on selling it. It's also sporting MSD coils & a Neverstart battery from Walmart. I didn't think there were Walmarts in Italy in 1962, but apparently they must have been the OEM supplier for Ferrari at the time (J/K). Rumor has it, he doesn't have a back window and plans on using a piece of plexiglass, YES PLEXIGLASS! I don't know how he's going to bend the plexi to fit, that is quite the rear window opening. The car also has a significant rake, front to rear, all the pics he's provided show perfectly a perfectly flat stance. It could just be the larger tires in the back, but I don't know. One day, after protesting, he actually brought in the chrome headlight rings, he was being so careful, he dropped one onto the concrete floor when opening the shop door. Some guys would have stolen their newborn's blanket to wrap up those parts. Enzo is dizzy from rolling over in his grave.
