Yes, pull the 3rd member out of the donor and swap it into your current rig. You'll be better off in the long run that way. You can add a locker later.

Post Re: 66 Bronco Project
Ok I pulled both axle shafts and both gears out of each Bronco and I'm looking at both the gear sets right now and it looks like the gear set I pulled from the Bronco I'm building that has a set of 3.54 gears has an actual locker in it and the one I pulled from locker doner doesn't..looks like its limited slip..guess what I'm wondering now is if I can pull the gears off the one with the locker and put the 4.10 gears on that locker? Ill take it to a shop to have it done of course but does anyone know if that's possible or will I have to order a locker?

Check your splines. Should be 28 (if stock). If the locker and your axles have the same, then yes.

I'm not familiar with Limited slips, but are they the carrier or are they lunchbox lockers inside the carrier?

Ok just dropped the guts to the two off at my mechanic he's gonna swap them out for me should have them back tomorrow and put back together..installed everything else except the body lift I loosened 2 bolts and the second snapped so I got freaked out and put it back together I think ill save that one till after summer don't want a body lift ruining my chance for wheeling..tomorrow ill install my door inserts..rear seat belt, and finish the axle just leaves me with power steering pulley and order a front detroit..winch will be in tomorrow too..I estimate mid next week she will be on the road

Post Re: 66 Bronco Project
You can expect some body bolts to snap if your body hasn't been removed in a while. Pretty common. Did your new kit come with new bolts? You might think about trying to treat those with something that will resist rust. Maybe paint them or something?? Got to be some better ideas because I doubt paint sticks to bolts too well. Maybe mcmaster.com has some corrosion resistant bolts??

As a matter of fact: http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-cap-screws/=dnvmf5 (second option down on the right). May cost you up front, but hopefully you would avoid breaking bolts in the future. And I can see more mods in your future when you get out there and wheel this beast.

Did you replace that broken bolt? You probably should.

Well I might attempt to drill through the bolt to replace it gonna be a pain in the butt I'm sure ill be snapping a lot more they've been in there for quite some time so I'm sure they are rusted out..oh well ill deal with it later and yes there's definetly gonna be a new suspension kit being installed in the near future gotta have that awesome flex..cant wait to get it moved out of the garage to snap some pics of it so u guys can check out the new interior and all the other mods I made looks totally different from the last pics I posted..

Something ain't right. If both were 9" axles, it should fit. Maybe wrong bearings??

Are you planning to drive the rig on the street much? If not, I would go detroit in rear and front. Or if you're trying to save a little money, truetrac in the front. Detroits don't have great road manners, but are tolerable. You won't feel it in the front in 2WD.

Ill go with the detroit up front..its just the rear I'm worried about..I don't understand how it didn't fit but hey he's the mechanic..I think if I throw a TRU track or something in the rear that only kicks in when u punch it that would be fine don't really wanna eat up them new tires..ill just get to looking on the net I guess
