Devil's Head Fire Lookout Hike
I am thinking about taking my Bronco on it's first big adventure. The family is thinking about hiking the Devil's Head Fire Lookout this weekend. Sounds like it is a shorter hike that starts just outside of Sedalia on Rampart Range Road. Amazing 360 degree views from the Fire lookout. Anyone done it? Any recommendations? Recommended places to eat?

Re: Devil's Head Fire Lookout Hike
I hear there are some good eats in Sedalia, but it's been 8yrs since I have eaten there. I saw a bunch of folks parked along the road there for this hike (at least I assume it was for this), but never done it myself.

Re: Devil's Head Fire Lookout Hike
http://www.sedaliagrill.comThe trail is about 2.8 miles round trip from what I hear and a good climb in elevation. I've been thinking about taking our 2.5 year old up in the back/pack. Would be a great workout:)

Sedalias Bar n Grille for food, and The ice cream shop is great for an afternoon snack. I was up on that road 2 or 3 years ago but didnt have time to climb up to the lookout. I think it is the same one I did with my dad about 30 years ago, Neat place.

My kids sleep until at least 9 AM on the Weekends - so we will be more of a lunch time. Thanks for all of the great ideas.

Re: Devil's Head Fire Lookout Hike
All the time I have spent in that area and I have never been to the look out tower. I would think it would be amazing. We were turkey hunting last spring in the area and Daniel and I talked about hiking to the tower as we were driving out one night. I think it would be awesome after dark to see the lights and stars. An evening hike might be fun. Watch the sun set, wait for the stars, then head home. Bring flash lights, and snacks then grab that burger at Bud's in sedalia on the way home. Yeah, they are that good.
I would not plan on a mid day/afternoon hike though, unless the weather is wonderful. Afternoon thunderstorms would be spooky at the highest point for miles around.

Re: Devil's Head Fire Lookout Hike
I can confirm that it is a lot of fun maybe be tough towards the end with a little one in a baby bjorn! I was about that age my first time up to the tower...I have done it a dozen or so times with my family but it has been awhile since my last trip, enjoy!

Re: Devil's Head Fire Lookout Hike
I will post some pics if i make it to the top. I will definitely hit Bud's for burgers. I am excited to see this area - still feeling bad about missing the Memorial Day Bronco run.

Re: Devil's Head Fire Lookout Hike
Sorry - we are going Saturday around 9:00 AM. My house sleeps in and will likely be down in Sedalia around 10'ish. Like Airbur said, hike is just 1.5 Miles up and 1.5 Miles down.

Re: Devil's Head Fire Lookout Hike
Should be a ton of fun morning. If anyone else is interested, see ya at the trailhead at 10 AM and lunch around Noon at Bud's. More the merrier! It will be HOT so plan accordingly.
