Post Re: 66 Bronco Project
Well I took my first drive down the road in it with the 4.10 gears in it..she handles well but wow I think shes geared way too low..I mean maybe if I hauled it to the trail but with those gears shes not street worthy..I thought at first my trani wasnt shifting into high gear..its a c4 with a hurst star shifter..seemed like more of a drag vehicle though..but I put it in drive and I could feel all all the gears kick in..heck I even went through and hit each one 1,2 then D and I could feel the last gear kick in from second but to drive it the rmps were skyrocketing and I wasnt moving that fast..before when I had the 3.54s in it I could cruise 70 no problem but at 70 now I would peg the rmps..anybody have any ideas?maybe the transfercase is geared real low?Im kicking around throwing my 3.54 gears back in but want some input before I do..

With 35's and 4.10's at 55mph you should be around 2600-2800rpm. If not then something isnt right.

Post Re: 66 Bronco Project
Your t-case in high is going to be 1:1 and won't affect your final drive ratio. I assume a C4 does not have an OD? Are you sure you're not on low range??

Using this site: http://www.rocky-road.com/calculator.html

with 35's you should be running around 75mph at 3000rpms.

Grab your gps and hit the highway again and give us some hard numbers as to mph and rpms...can work backwards from there.

If I leave my tranny in 4th, with my setup, I could probably cruise 65 comfortably.

Also, you won't be happy with anything less than 4.10's on the trail, unless you stick to 3 and under rated trails. Anything more technical and you'll quickly realize low gearing is king. So the time comes to decide what you really want to do with the rig or...time for an Atlas where you can run your 3.73's, but still have a great crawl ratio for the trail...

Yeah, 50mph and screaming is low range. You'll be a bit happier in high range. You'll get about 40% more speed for the same rpms in high.

Thanks Chaos took for taking some of the heat away from me. lmao

I know you have went through hell getting your truck together and the rear end has been one of the headaches - cool when it is something little like that.

Need me to get you one?? oops

LOL! Glad it was something simple as well. BTDT and got the t-shirt!

Really tho, finding 2-low takes a LOT of practice! But finding 2-High and 4-low are the priorities!

Wow that transfer case pattern was totally different then what I thought guess I know now..and yeah she was taking off like a rocket poor thing..blow the cobwebs out of that sob! All I have left now is install the front bumper and winch and build the rear bumper and gas can holder then buy a spare..and its good to go planning a trip to eagle rock either the first or second week of sept if anyone wants to play..

I would love to hit the trails with you. First weekend I am out for sure. Second weekend, my wife works Saturday morning, so that means I have my son with me. He's not old enough to hit the trails yet. But, I may be able to swing a baby sitter.

Well I installed a new thermostat in it and still overheated I'm sure the radiator missing a fan shroud has a lot to do with it...guess the next step is to order that amunimum radiator with electric fan and see if that helps if not then order a new waterpump..
