Post Muffler question
I have dual mufflers (unknown brand) with a crossover pipe just prior to them and they reside just under the truck about between the front seats.

It seems my floor has been progressively getting hotter as the miles roll by since I have owned the truck. The outside shells of steel on the mufflers have rusted and at least one layer has been removed from the outer shell.
Since I am not sure of the brand i have no idea how they are made internally but am wondering: could a muffler over time of use and breaking down of materials gradually get hotter on the outside surface?

Sunday when takin a quick trip to the hills it was hot enough on the floor you could only touch it for a nano second with your palm and not at all with the top of your hand.

any ideas why?

dont really have the $$ to throw new mufflers on just to try , and winter will be here soon so it might be nice to be warm just dont think its good to be that warm.

Internal baffles could be rusting away just as the outer shell is. So yes, I'd say they could be getting hotter the more they deteriorate. You might be able to find some blanket insulation that can withstand 1000 degrees and install it between the mufflers and the floor.

Get a piece of aluminum sheet and suspend it between the muffler and the floor.

Heck you might want to wait until next spring. Free heater in the winter.

Get with me when you come by this week, I have some scrap sheet alum that you can have. All you will have to do is figure out a way to attach it.
