Post Re: I finally broke down!
After spending 15ish hours rewiring my truck in January, I'm super jealous. I had nights that the temp inside the garage was 10 or 15 degrees. My breath froze on my mustache. Congrats!

I am jealous. I really like the design - out of the way, thermostat, nat. gas, etc. and it is removable when you move. Looks like a great unit.

I believe a heater is a necessity in the winter. I found it impossible to get motivated to go out in the garage when it is cold. Getting any work done with ski gloves is next to impossible. I use a keroseen torpedo heater and it saved me last year. I got it off CL for $75.00. Used about 10 gallons of kerosene and worth every penny. I learned to get the kerosene early at Depot as they only order it at the beginning of the season. Found myself going to 5 Home Depots looking for kerosene later in the season. Thanks for the recommendation Vragor.

Way to step up for CCB. Not many people have an organization as fine as this to have a heated club garage. You da Man! I'll just sign up for January 7th and 8th now.

I might be interested in those propane heaters when the time comes. Having a detached garage means I'm definitely going to need something if I want to work on the rig at all over the winter.

Nice. I installed one in my dads garage and it's so nice to have. Have the garage at 65 when its freezin out is so worth it.

That will be so nice. I am in the process of installing an exhaust fan (Zilla, you know this) in my garage so that I can exhaust fumes for when I run my propane heaters. I traded a guy a couple years ago for some leveling springs for his excursion I had for a Mr. Heater and a 23gal propane tank. The tank alone is worth double the springs were. Happy camper here! Just wish I could find a cheap way to insulate the ceiling of my garage to hold the heat in and keep it from freezing inside.

Jealous. I was going to have one installed 3 years ago after we moved into our current house but, unfortunately, I had also just installed a gas line for the stove and the BBQ outside....that coupled with the 2 gas fireplaces, water heater, and heater apparently = no more gas for garage heater! HVAC dude said I'd have to enlarge the main gas line to the house:(

You know, I had this argument with an inspector once a few years ago. I had helped a friend install a second water heater because he was tired of having no hot water (4 teenage sons will crush your primary heater in a hurry). He actually went to the city and had it inspected, something I would have never done. Inspector made him increase the size of his main because he had one gas fire place, rough in for a gas stove (though he had an electric stove) and a rough in for a BBQ, that he did not use. We argued and argued that even if he had all those appliances, what are the odds that they would all be in use at the same time? Inspector was a schmuck and long story short, he had to call in a plumber to install the gas main...

But i am happy to report that today, with 2 of those teenage sons moved on to higher education, his dual water heaters work splendidly.

Me? Well I have the shop, plenty of heat and space, to use when I need it. And at home, I have 2 electric and one propane "glow plate" style heater. If I did not have the shop - I would have a heater in the garage. It is insulated and dry-walled.

Airbur, if you need I can give you the way to turn up your regulator at the meter and you can have heat in the garage. How long is your run from meter to furthest fixture... I highly doubt you needed to run a new main line.

I am not sure and it's difficult to estimate......I think the furthest one would be in the basement...the fireplace. The meter is next to the garage door. I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks!

If your meter is right outside the garage, just add a line from the meter into garage, problem solved, and black iron is cheap, I would even lend you my threadin' gear
