Powwer stering play?
I have a 73 bronco with all new power stering, stering shaft, box, stock pump, and I run 33's. I have 3-4 inches of play driving down the road. What causes it and How can I fix it?
I want tighter stering!

Have you checked your bushings on the track bar? how about the bolts and brackets on the track bar? what kinda shape is the drag link and tie rod ends in?

Re: Powwer stering play?
What about the steering linkage? If that is shot, you'll pick up slop from that too.

x2 on linkage. That was the problem with mine. Extra slop will allow the drag link to rotate around the tie rod instead of pushing it.

Get a buddy, wife, girlfriend, neighbor etc to turn the wheel back and forth while you get down under there and examine everything. You should be able to find exactly where the play is coming from. As mentioned though, it's probably a combination of things.

Start at the firewall and work your way all the way to the knuckles. Check to see if the box is secured to the frame well.

Also check that the steering box is tight to the frame. My bolts worked loose & ended up with some play at the steering wheel.

X47 on checking the linkages. I had about a 1/4" or less of play in my tie rod and my rig wandered around like it had a mind of it's own.

Re: Powwer stering play?
If you need help diagnosing it let me know. I'll be out lots this weekend but you're close enough to me that it shouldn't be a big deal to swing by. Call or shoot me a PM.
