So I have been a member on Classicbronco.com for a while, and just joined this site. I am in texas as of now, but me and family are planning our move to Colorado i about 18 months. Enough of that for now.
I have a '69, 302, that requires attention, but able to drive it to work.
We will be up there this summer for about three weeks checking out towns for our relocation. My best friend is is Salida, Co. so that will be out 'Home Base' and we will be searching the surroundings.

A very warm welcome - happy you found the club. I admire your planning skills - when I moved here 2 years ago, I gave 2 weeks notice and a week to move. I was so excited to move here. I think my Bronco was originally that color and the same as my Dad's 1970 Ford Truck. Love the wheels too.

Its not that we arent excited....we cant wait. But have loose ends here. I am still remodeling our house, which will take at least another year, with a full time job, wife, and two kids.

Welcome! Are you an LEBC member? I spent three years in SA, but was able to move back home to CO in '09.

Don't hesitate to ask questions about living here. Someone will have first hand experience. What line of work do you do? That seems to be the determining factor!

If not, Buena Vista is a nice little town. Great place for the outdoorsman.

I had a feeling work might be brought up. So here it is...
Currently, i own a custom picture framing shop. My wife is school teacher. We are leaving to be closer to her family, Albaquerque, to be some where beautiful, and somewhere its not so hot. Last summer about did us in.
So the plan is, i finish the house, we find a place we like, put the hous3 on the market and move when it sells. No jobs, just live life and take a chance. I know its risky, but what the hell, you only live once. my degree is wildlife manag. and would really like to get on with the US forest ser. My bro in law works for them. I also can do just about everything in the w!y of home construction, concrete, paint, drywall, etc. Over time i will probably open my picture frame shop and do fine custom furniture with that.
We will figure it out summer of 2013. Plan to spend some time up there this summer finding a nice town to raise our boys.

For your wife, the mountain towns are hard to get teaching jobs in. Most of those people die in their positions and they have people lined up to slide right in. But if she lands one, it would be a coup for ya. Pagosa would be a good place for your picture framing, as would something like Carbondale, Glenwood, Steamboat, anything close to the ski towns. They are a little artsy and I have seen shitty pictures in beautiful frames in some of those places.....especially Aspen. Good lord, those people have some of the worst taste there...lol

thanks for the info. We have already heard that getting in as a teacher is hard. She can do other things like sub until it happens. As for the picture framing.....I grew up in a frame shop, and took my fathers, moved it to another town, and have been doing it for 9 years now. I am hoping to have a change for a while and maybe slowly start doing it again. Maybe a little at a time. I have been doing picture framing for 29 years.

At least is sounds like you are pretty flexible when it comes to jobs. That's good! You have a Wildlife management degree, you should consider a position at the Division of Wildlife instead... A good friend of mine retired from there, so if you need names to contact, let me know.

My inlaws live near Rye, CO. Very small little town and very western (cattle ranches, etc)m, but a 30 minute drive to Pueblo. Might be worth a look. There are other towns west of there (westcilffe) that are nice as well, but again, very small.

Gary is right on target with most ski towns being Artsy. The only exception I can think of is Leadville, but then again, that ski hill is very small compared to others. You will escape the heat there at 10,200ASL.

If you hate traffic, I would avoid anything near Denver and I-70 west. Ski traffic is miserable!

Sorry, kinda going off on a tangent, but let us know if you have any specific questions. There are towns you may not get along in depending on your political persuasion too.

Oh, Ouray (U-ray) area is really nice too. Lots of beautiful scenery (probably some of the best in the state), outdoorsy stuff and artsy enough to get you going should you decide to do more framing. Done for now....
