Re: Explorer 5.0 EFI SWAP
I guess I might as well face it............I have went from EFI swap to frame off refresh.
I will start posting progress here instead of in separate threads.
Here's what we started with yesterday morning. IMG_0002.JPG
Thanks to 76FordBronco, Gregg, Viperwolf1, and HorseMan we got the body off with lots of ingenuity by the group.
We averted a near disaster when Viperwolf arrived and shared his experience with the best way to rig the front end for lifting. He came just when we were about to lift it up with it rigged the wrong way (I guess I should have thought this out a bit more). Thank you Phil !
We used one engine hoist rigged to the roll bar through the back hatch and the other rigged under the firewall right at the front door post. IMG_0004.JPG
Our plan was to lift the body high enough to clear the chassis with the intention of rolling it forward to get it out from under the body. We lifted it sky high (+/- 3/16") but we still couldn't get the body to clear the tires.
So we switched to Plan B which was to remove the wheels / tires and use two jacks to lower the chassis and roll it out sideways. IMG_0008.JPG
The whole thing was kinda "on-the-fly redneck engineering" but I wouldn't have it any other way as we got it done safely and efficiently. IMG_0012.JPG
Tomorrow morning I will bring the rolling chassis to the blaster and then head home to work on the body.
Stay tuned !

Re: Rox Crusher's frame off refresh and 5.0 EFI swap
My little princess Madison was sick last night / today so I didn't get much done.
I did manage to get the rolling chassis to the sandblaster and back home by the end of the day.
I took it to DTI Trucks up in Wheatridge who did an outstanding job for less than half what BlastTech quoted me. They allowed me to schedule it (rather than "first come first served" with a 5 day wait) so it really worked out well. They offered to paint it for 100 bucks but since I had already bought a gallon of chassis saver I declined.

So, we will be get back at it in the morning.

Re: Rox Crusher's frame off refresh and 5.0 EFI swap
Yesterday Mike and I cleaned up the frame by removing the dual shock brackets on the front and rear and grinding off all the factory installed dingleberries (weld splatter).
Spencer gave us good directions on what to do !
IMG_0002.JPG
Today we got that sucker painted with a nice thick coat of satin black Chassis Saver.
IMG_0004.JPG
We are gonna give it a day or two to cure and then give it a good look over to see if we missed any spots before starting to re-assemble things.

Re: Rox Crusher's frame off refresh and 5.0 EFI swap
Pretty sweet, I wish I could justify doing that to my truck, but my body would probably fold in half pulling it off the frame like that! I'm scared of even trying to replace the body mounts or doing a body lift. That frame will be bomber with the Chassis Saver, that stuff is tough. Good luck.

We got the BC Broncos tank and skid plate installed yesterday.
Great quality and a pretty stout skid plate.

Re: Rox Crusher's frame off refresh and 5.0 EFI swap
True, I don't really thing the EFI manifold added that much to my truck, compared to the Edelbrock aluminum intake & carb & fuel pump I took off. In the big picture adding a York pump & air dryers probably added as much weight as the EFI swap. Its hard to say, comparing old vs new & different trucks. I'm just guessing when I install my new leaf pack I'm going to have some serious rake.
