Post Sledding
Thinking about taking the family sledding this weekend. Anyone have suggestions on a ski resort to go sledding with kids?

Keystone Adventure Point looks awesome!

Post Re: Sledding
When I was a kid we just went looking for a cool place to sled. Dad used to haul us around behind the truck on a inner tube a lot and that was a blast trying to not hit a mail box or something else planted in a solid spot. But those days in Colorado are gone. I do know that a lot of folks head up to Arapaho Basin and sled usually in the afternoons after the lifts close. We used to get a spot on the "Beech" on Friday nights when I lived up there and would BBQ and ski all day then watch dogs and drunk sledders and families with kids climb the hill and sled down. Those days may be gone as well but its worth checking out if your up there.

My Jr high school which is now a politically correctly names middle school had a steep hill we could walk to and go sled down and made a jump halfway to the bottom hoping we could clear the rest of the hill. Also Stanley lake was another place that had hills. Oh I just remembered that the hill on Ken Caryl just East of Simms St is a popular spot if there is enough snow in the metro region.

I have heard about sledding at ski resorts. The one benefit I can think of is some have a tow-rope to get you back to the top. The downside is you pay for that!

We used to just find a hill in the forest somewhere and go. Tubes, sleds, toboggans, saucers, wax coated cardboard - you name it, we rode it!

Frisco has a pretty sweet 'adventure park' as well. We were just in Breck last weekend (reason I missed the breakfast) and drove by it. Looks pretty fun.

I also live right by Kipling/Ken Caryl and there is a big sledding hill of the Northwest corner that intersection. Always busy though....

I don't know if Colorado has gotten as bad as Arizona, but AZ used to actively hunt for decent sledding hills anywhere near a main highway, and deliberately put big rocks or plant trees on them to prevent sledding. I'm sure it had to do with people getting hurt on public land and suing the government.

My first couple of years here we tried to find somewhere decent around the Springs and never did find anything. You'd think those old ski runs above the Broadmoor would be good, but they were fenced off. I've considered the $30 an hour hills at Keystone and Copper Mtn but never done them. The one at Copper especially looked good with the big wide conveyor belt to get back to the top.

The Copper Mountain one may be one of the better deals. It is unlikely that my 2 YO is going to want to sled more than an hour or two. I KNOW he won't get behind Zilla's RZR lmao

Solvista Basin had a really nice free sledding hill at their small lodge, too far for a day trip I think, but if you are going to be nearby I can recommend it.

I'll agree with Zilla on the Thornton Rec center hill, we've ran that hill when I visit my mom.

Down in my neck of the woods we hit the hill by Iron Horse Elementary school off E. Hilltop Rd.

There is a great sledding place between 120th and 128th and Federal. The road turns into Zuni at 128th but there is a spot at about W 122nd Ave that is a bowl. Lots of people sled it when there is some snow.

Had a great time sledding today with the Family. We skipped the ski resorts as it was likely packed today with all the new snow, traffic, and far drive. We instead took out new Ungle Bob's tubes and hit the Rec Center on Sheridan. Had a great time. Thanks again guys for all the help.

It's a good thing you stayed in town.

Took the family to a field and played in the snow. FINALLY locked in the hubs and put it in 4-Wheel Drive! Whooot! Even managed to get it stuck in 4-Hi. Played with the family that I was stuck and they would have to shovel us out. Shifted it into 4-Lo and got out without a problem. We skinned out before the Police came and ruined the fun. It was fun to see what it would do in the snow. Kids had a great time!
