Re: 76 shift column springs install
anyone? i take it nobody has removed the spring from there? I totally forgot which way I removed it.. it seems a bit hooky to have the two little screws holding in that spring.. but looks like thats how it was. I haven't been able to find a clear schematic for this part either.. nor is it in my shop manuals.

Re: 76 shift column springs install
We did it on Drews a while ago when we replaced the shift colar. I do nto remember which way the spring goes but Wild Horses has a video on U-tube about it Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HcqxJ9yCv0Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_PU3LAI ... ure=relmfuPart 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNTv2kpx ... ure=relmfuI am sure that they cover what you need. Good luck.

The column is together painting it tonight...
one thing i noticed is the new wiring has 2 different wire colors than the one i removed. I will search around but anyone know off hand which colors they replace?

I've seen the answer posted before, almost certain it was viper. Search his posts here & at cb.com.

Re: 76 shift column springs install
Here are the stock colors.
'74-'77 Column Connections Blue=12v from turn flasher to turn switch, circuit #44 white-blue=right front turn and indicator lamp, circuit #2 green=right rear brake and turn lamp, circuit #282 green-white=left front turn and indicator lamp, circuit #3 yellow-black=left rear brake and turn lamp, circuit #283 red-black=12v brake switch to turn signal switch, circuit #810 blue-yellow=12v horn relay to horn switch, circuit #1 white-red=12v from hazard flasher to hazard switch, circuit #385 blue-red=12v from headlight switch to PRNDL light, #19
If you take a picture of the switch and ID the terminal with the different wire I can tell you what it is.

Re: 76 shift column springs install
Can you post a pic of the switch so I can see where the wires go?
Those colors look correct and in the correct positions.

Re: 76 shift column springs install
You can use an ohmmeter to test the wiring. For example: Brake light input has continuity to both left and right turn/brake wires when the turn signal is off. When the left turn is on, there is continuity to only the right turn/brake wire. Hazards have continuity to all 4 turn signals. Front and rear signals have continuity to each other when the turn signal is on.
