Clays Unridden Roads Ride
There's a few roads I've always wanted to ride, but never seem to get to. This time I'm going specifically to ride them. Skyline drive is just out of Canon City. I've known it was there for years, but I've never found it. Finally someone told me it's one way and starts about 5 miles outside of town. There's a large pressure ridge jutting up just outside the city, and Skyline Drive climbs up the side and then runs down the length of the ridge. I stopped for the night in Gunnison to meet up with a buddy coming up from Arizona (He came via Madrid NM of Wild Hogs fame). I had dinner with Gunni and gabbed for a bit, but I forgot to take a picture with him. Skyline Drive by Canon City Posing just at the top of the ridge Looking over the bike at the highway From here, the ridge narrows No guard rails Often little or no shoulders either. Glad there wasn't much wind Descending on the city side of the ridge. Good switchbacks on the way down

I have actually driven Skyline. We drove it in my Excursion a few years ago - with the extended family all strapped in place. A few of those switch backs were VERY TIGHT! Fun road though.

Nice drive. Scares my wife to bits. Occasionally someone crashes and it is usually a mess. JP

I've seen the turnoff to that road and wondered what's up there. Now I don't have to wonder. Here's a picture of the Homer Spit, also from Skyline Road.

Did you make a trip thru gateway, co? If not, that is a cool area too.
