I got a new rear view mirror to replace the old one but I need the procedure to get the old one off. The one that's on there now doesn't have a button glued to the windsheild, it is glued directly on. How do I get it off without breaking the windsheild? HELP!!

There is no good way to remove the button on a windshield, sometimes you can apply some heat, not a lot, like a heat gun to the button and pry very easy and it may pop off, but more likely it will take a chunk of glass with it. I would suggest you look for a new button, scrap yards etc and use it. If you hope to keep the existing windshield. Unfortunately in your case, the glue used is very strong.

Drive down Phantom Canyon road, or even Rampart Range road. That sucker will fall right off without breaking the glass...

Apply heat to the button, usually it will pop off without damaging the window. I have used the propane torches in the past with good results.

Speaking of rear view mirrors, I cleaned mine last night when I was cleaning the windshield. Hell, I thought it was permanently foggy. It's like looking through a new window into the backseat. I also figured out all those spots on my windshield aren't spots, its just pitted everywhere, on both sides. One of these days, I'll have to get a new one.

Pits on the inside are generally the result of welding and grinding.

Public service announcement folks: Those shinny bright orange sparks flying around are molten metal, they will melt into the glass. So unless you want to give me a call and order new glass - protect that glass when welding and grinding.

whats funny is at first I thought back to when I painted it 13 years ago and wondered if I put the windshield in backwards....it could happen

use a scotch brite disc on your 2 or 3" sander on it. basically polish it up ral good, the heat transfers and it will peel right off without damaging the glass or anything inside. once you get it nice and warm the glue softens....
