And I just found out who it was that took it out, I'll get you for this...

From what I can tell there must have been some problems on the 1st run, the driver side D44 axle seems to have been changed, interesting.

Yeah, the torque was awesome, would've been able to get it to the ground if I had the rear driveshaft, picking that up today from the shop after getting it extended.

I slipped the 203 into low, left the 205 in high and using 1st gear (granny 5.72) I was able to just let her crawl up the slopes at around 1mph without touching the throttle, clutch or brake, like a kid in the candy store.

Oh I didn't realize you didn't have a rear shaft, that explains a lot more

Post Re: Black Smoke Donkey
Finally got the rear driveshaft in, took a day to get the right u bolts.

Asked Phil the "ohm master" to come by and keep me straight so I didn't melt my wiring harness hooking up the 130 amp alt. We consulted many references, discussed it, pulled off the covers protecting connections and got our supplies in order. Phil got excited when he pulled out a 20 yr old resister that came in a two pack, he had previously used one when he had a GM alt in his truck and we built this sweet plug to use.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375333603.426923.jpg

Then we tried to plug it into the alt and found out the two terminals had a factory bridge, hmm... Maybe we don't need to set this up as a 3 wire system. WTH slap it in with a fat 4 gauge hot wire to the batt, add a 4 gauge ground and fire it up, success! 13.8 volts!

Thinking about it we decided that a fleet motor was probably set up to be as simple as possible, hard to beat one wire.

We also re-wired some '68 front turn signals with factory ends and added some ground wires since my grill is covered in bed liner.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375334068.158296.jpg

Finally we removed some PO wire crimps in the brake and tail light harness, now the drivers side brake light works, woohoo.

You'd think I stopped working on it, no.
Small items lately. Reusing some old roll bars so I can install some 3 pt belts & get a good idea of how much steel I'll need to build my halo cage. Cleaning up some wiring that won't be used with the diesel, mostly the voltage regulator wires and adding another fused link to the main power wire to compete that loop (Viper recommended). Spliced in the zf backup light plug, 1st time my bronco has had reverse lights since I've owned it. And I've been driving it every chance I get.

The donkey got a hood yesterday, enough red necking and scaring young children and women, lol. I extended the hinges and raised the front retention pins so I don't have to cut it. I'll need to relocate my intercooler & battery lower before I can set the hood in It's original position. Plus I'm going back to a stock hood, the fiberglass cowl induction hood will be going up for sale.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376061765.128806.jpg

Also started test fitting the front doors, I'm glad I followed hockeydad's advice on putting them on before I did my final welding on the door posts. There will be some, uh, adjustments made to make them fit better.

Post Re: Black Smoke Donkey
Just about burned my entire wiring harness last night. I swapped steering columns a couple of days ago and was wiring up the turn signals ('79 column) and was trying to figure out if the switch was bad in the column. I had the key in the run position and was messing around with the trailer wiring, started to smell something burning, reached up under the dash and the harness was so hot it burned my hand. Quickly yanked the harness down, turned the key off and stripped the wrapping, the resister wire had melted the coating for nearly a foot. I don't think it got any other wire, my initial thought is that since I reused the 12v hot on run wire that normally goes to the coil to energize the fuel solenoid that it over heated since the solenoid wasn't engaged. I'll do some trouble shooting today and see what isn't working.

I was half joking the other day when I said I wanted to hook up some type of spring so that if my electrical system failed I could start my motor without the starter. So as luck would have it I stumbled across this the other day.

"Mechanical Spring Starters
Midi Starter
The second size up in the Spring Starter range, the Midi, is capable of starting engines up to 6.6 litres with a maximum of six cylinders.

The Midi Spring Starter can be installed on all manufacturers diesel engines."

Perfect!

So is it just an HD wind-up toy?? Never heard of that.

High gear, descent speed should get it push or bump started... unless it's cold.

I tried a bump stop the other day befor I had my alt hooked up, but it wasn't steep enough, used W's bronco to jump it, I'll try again though.

BSD is about to get a major upgrade and some bling. I think most of you know I like to reuse old items that are still good, and my build shows that with 40 year old parts being cleaned, inspected and put right back in. But there were two items that I either couldn't do this with or the result would have been poor. The 1st item will hopefully never be seen again as it sits between my 203/205. It is the custom shaft and adapter that allows me to run the doubler, some very nice pieces of milled steel from Jed's Machining.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376509565.201029.jpg

The other piece just arrived via the man in brown, JB Custom Fabs cable actuated triple stick buggy shifter. I had quickly thought about building my own rod activated shifter using old parts, but realized that I probably wouldn't be capable of making it nice enough to shift smoothly. I've got to say that this thing is way to nice to go into my Bronco. I'll have to step up on some other aspect to make it worthy.

It is pretty isn't it. Installed it today, fairly straight forward, the sticks aren't exactly adjusted yet. I may relocate it after I get a chance to use it, but I have to build my removable tunnel cover before it finds a home for good.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376615443.512589.jpg

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376615485.092028.jpg

I also mocked in my jump seats that will next to the tailgate, only kid sized folks will be able to sit in them and only when I get the back part of my cage built. I cut a notch into the fender wells, theyfold up nearly even with the sides. With the body lift and suspension lift the tires should never even get close to this area. Besides finishing the sheet metal and bolting them in I'll reuse the stock bumpers and straps to secure them when they are up. I also will need to pick up some additional seat belts for them.

I believe a late 70's to early 80's extended cab Ford truck. Some had bench seats and some had these jump seats. The green almost matches the original color of my interior.

Scored a nice little exhaust section from a E350 w/ a V10 in it, 3" exhaust from the muffler back. A quick mock up and I'll need to section a inch or so b/c the axle hump is a bit big, otherwise it's a great fit.

You should have kept it the original color. Monkey vomit green is the boss
