Engine seals
While I've got my front axle out I'm thinking it would be good to replace the leaky seals on the lower half of the block-oil pan, rear main, etc. I know there are a couple of different styles of rear main, any suggestions as to which is easier to R&R? Any other maintenance I should be thinking of while it's easy?

Re: Engine seals
I don't remember what year your engine is. If it's newer than about '83 it will have a 1 piece seal that can only be changed by removing the flywheel. Older than that it will either have a rope seal or neoprene seal. Use the neoprene seal because it's easier and you might not be able to even get rope seals anymore. Probably not many people still know how to use the rope seals either.

Re: Engine seals
I've got a 302, but I'm not sure what year. It had a rebuilt long block put in at some point. Probably useful to find out.

Check this spot and see if you have any numbers/letters stamped on there.
