Post Carburetor... where to get one?
I'm looking to replace my carburetor. I'm still running the motorcraft 2100 and would prefer to get the same, but can't find them anywhere local. Checked advance, auto zone, napa and can get aTomco or "napa exclusive", but no rebuilt motorcraft (United rebuilds them I think). Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on where to look?

Is there a reason you're looking to buy a rebuilt carb over rebuilding your current one? It's fairly easy to do, and the rebuilt kit for that isn't expensive. Depending on where you're located you can use my can of carb cleaner to dip the parts. I haven't rebuilt that particular carb before, but I'm guessing someone around here can help you with it.

Good question, should of coveted that. The carb is cracked and leaks bad. No idea how that happened, but scrapped some kind of sealant of the side and there it was. Who knows what the po used to do that

I may have just sourced one to rebuild. You recommend a kit, or think the gp sorenson? ones advance carries should work ok?

A parts store kit should be fine.

I've got a box full of them if you want to come pick out the best looking one, I think I even have a rebuild kit on the shelf as well.

Post Carb on, wont stay running
Ok guys, I got the carb rebuilt, have it installed, and got the engine running. (It had been years). I had a tough time getting it going before I figured out the timing was way off. The engine was turning over and trying to 'catch', but just wasn't firing up. So... I advanced the timing a little bit. That got her running, but now I'm having issues keeping her running.
I know that I really need to set the timing, but I can't keep it running for more than a minute or so. It is bone stock, I'm only the second owner and it has the original air cleaner and all still with it. Except all of the hoses are rotted and missing.
Now, I think I should be able to keep it running without all of that hooked up, and I'm thinking there may be some vacuum leaks elsewhere in the system I do have the lines running back to the carb from where I removed them before. I guess my question is,
What is the next step you all would take to keep it running so I can investigate issues and set the timing?

Sounds like mine...

Sat for 10 years before I came along and gave it a swift KICK!

I drained the oil, blew out all the gas lines, changed the oil/filter and fuel filter into the Carb. Added new oil.

Pulled the plugs and squirted some Marvel mystery oil onto each of the 8 pistons. (let sit for 2 days)

I then replaced the Plugs, Plug wires, Points, Cap, and Rotor.

Lastly I added a new fuel pump. (mechanical stock type)

Low and behold it fired right up with new gas and I guess I was lucky enough to keep it running right through the timing process!

...My guess is you need to replace the fuel pump. If you can get it running though, fiddle with the loose distributor by moving it Rt/Lt slowly listening to how the engine responds and you can get it real close just by how it sounds.

Hope this helps?

Thanks Mick, I should of mentioned I changed all fluid, plugs, wires, etc. I was also worried about the tank and old fuel lines so I bypassed all of that for now with a temp tank going directly into a new filter on the carb.
