Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
Justin, Your new axle is all cleaned up. Its not clean enough to eat off of but it lost about 5 pounds of dirt ,grime and solidified gear oil.

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
So only partly related to the Bronco, but had to show off anyway. After picking up a new welder earlier this year, I decided that it needed a sweeter cart than the the Harbor Freight one that was home to my old unit. This was my first real fabrication project. It isn't perfect, partly because I've discovered that there isn't a single flat surface in my garage, but it rolls great and holds all my welding junk. I'm happy with how it came out.

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
Nice work-- I like that you have a little work area on top rather than having the top of the welder exposed! Looks pro built!

Nice project. A cart was my first project as well. Yours came out much nicer than mine!

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
Thanks guys! Now that the welder is mobile, I'm hoping to build a fabrication table for the next project. I sized the cart so that I can roll it under the table for storage and easy access while working on stuff. I may need to add a shield to the front of the bottle area to keep red-hot crud from messing up the hoses or regulators.

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
Have gotten the new front axle torn almost all the way down. Wanted to clean it before I pulled the pinion. Spent 3 hours and 4 cans of oven cleaner confirming that there was a HP Dana 44 somewhere under all the crud. Also spent the entire Bronco fund on Ebay (again), but got a couple of very cool toys.

Added some vinyl to the grill to help people remember that it's not a Jeep (unlike Rox's next ride).

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
The Bronco had a good day. Orders came in from RuffStuff and Wild Horses. Also scored a great Craigslist deal on a Crane cast chromoly diff cover for the front. It's beef, and will probably lower the center of gravity of my truck about an inch by itself. I've now got nearly all the parts I need to make the axle swap happen. Work has tentatively given me the 18th-26th off, so feel free to swing by if you want to hang out and watch me fabricate (badly). I'm itching to get this project started!

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
I thought progress was defined by how many parts you INSTALLED, not removed. I suppose if this is the measure of progress, I have progressed the crap out of Project X. But in all seriousness, the new Hover Bronco looks great. Is it air driven or magnetic?

Re: Justin's retroactive build thread
A huge thanks to everyone that came! A huge amount of work got done. The Dana 44 ARB got swapped into the new housing with new-to-me gears. The rear centersection got re-geared and rebuilt, and the housing was prepped for new spring perches and shock mounts. Both of the stock front and rear axles were pulled, and the exhaust was stripped out since the long tube headers won't work with the high pinion 44. Got the drop radius arm brackets cut off as well. Basically, everything is prepped to start the fabrication and installation part of the swap. This was work that would have taken me both months and $$ to do. This club rocks.
