Post off-road carb vs EFI
Looking for opinions here...everyone's got one, right?

I was headed for EFI on my 351W. But...I don't use it for a daily driver, and only wanted EFI for better performance on steeper hills. When I say steeper I don't mean rock-hopping ledges...I've been able to do almost everything I want with the street carb that is on it now...but when I got to "the Squeeze" at Lefthand canyon she chokes out on me.

Trying to be logical here and not sink a lot of money into this if I don't need to...I am wondering if an off-road carb will suit my needs. Does anyone here have experience with the Avenger Off-Road carb or other similar units?

I know you can do EFI relatively cheap...but the $5 bones for a fuel system upgrade is where I have the heartburn. The EFI parts can be had for a decent price, but when I realize a larger, single tank is needed, the total project cost is probably around $800 to $1000.

Will an off-road carb perform well enough?

Thanks zilla - I may take you up on that. I've got more pondering to do, to determine my approach.

Seems like taking Zilla's carb is the smart and easy fix. You can buy it, install it, and try it out this weekend - if it doesn't work out, pass the killer $100 Carb onto another member. I agree that the expensive tanks take the fun out of the project and I have only seen 1 used 23 Gallon tank and it was in Utah and he still wanted $300.00 for it.

Let me know if you decide to get the carb this weekend and I will hand you tools :)

Before switching to EFI, I used many diff. carbs. The last and best one I had used was the Holley Truck Avenger. Can be dialed in for steep hills and whatever. The spring loaded seats really made it alot better on steep stuff.
