Name that break. Bonus points to those with brilliant ideas on how to fix it.

Re: todays quiz....
The trac bar mount and drop bracket seperated from the frame? Wha?
Looks like you are going to need to section some new steel in to that frame rail. What was happening at the time of the break?

Re: todays quiz....
According to the owners older brother who was driving it at the time, all the sudden the death wobble started And would not stop so he brought it to the shop where she rests until I figure out exactly how to go about fixing it.... I have a feeling andrew is going to forbid his bro from driving her after this.
Can't say I would blame him if he did

Re: todays quiz....
I've heard of it, but haven't see it... until now that is. There had to be some some sort of existing damage to the frame for that to rip like that.

Re: todays quiz....
Not a dig on you or your work Greg....
If the trac bar mount isn't welded to the frame on top of being bolted to the old mount, I can see how the stresses would cause it to pull away. You have to figure all the pressure is being transmitted to that one exterior side, where the bolts are.

Re: todays quiz....
Ouch, that hurts. Glad no one was hurt. I have also heard of it happening but never seen it. I heard its better to use an axle riser than to use a trac bar drop for this reason. I have done neither though.

Re: todays quiz....
Another non dig on the PO, but this is the reason why you shouldn't use drop trac bar brackets. If you have any lift over 3", do yourself a favor & don't waste money on the drop bracket, buy the axle riser from Wild Horses and weld that sucker on good. Glad no one was hurt, but it could have been prevented with the right bracket.

Re: todays quiz....
How about extended track bar? I know there are some geometry issues with just extending the track bar, but wouldn't that address the safety aspect?

Re: todays quiz....
Ok bronco guru's, fabrication masters and a few "newby's" like us...
Here is a link to the thread I started on CB.com and the recomended fixes they have on that site. This is something we will be attempting this week as this weekend we will be off to Salt Lake for a hockey tourney and next weekend is the bumper build.
Essentually here is what I am planning:
#1. Cut the frame back and square up the "gaping hole". #2. Weld in new steel, then wrap the whole area with 1/4" wall 3 X 4" U channel. #3. Looks like it is a good idea to fabricate a stronger rtrack bar bracket, and reinforce it as well as the frame - weld the entire bracket to the frame #4. Purchase and install a riser bracket for the track bar - WH has a good one I am told
Of course I just got the call: "Dad, the back glass in the excursion is shattered" When it rains it pours.

Re: todays quiz....
Good thing you know a good glass guy.
Been following that thread over at CB.com. I've got a drop track bar bracket on my '72. Planning to go to the riser at the same time I throw the new lift in. Probably pick up and adjustable track bar as well.
