lift and rear end gearing trade
I have a bronco with a 5 1/2 inch wild horses lift and a rear end with 4.56 gearing. I think I want to lower it and make it a little more highway friendly with higher gearing. Possible to swap just the gearing? Its a 9 inch, 31 spline, full floater, with a detroit locker. Anyone want to trade out? I can help with the swap but my knowledge is limited. Both swaps would be new jobs for me.

4.56 isn't too deep unless your rocking a 3 speed and 31's, like Dirtheadz said, give us some details.

Re: lift and rear end gearing trade
I have 33's now. I like that size. I do not know about 3.55 gears? I do like off-roading, just not into rock crawling. I still want to be able to go on the off-road trails and passes. What gearing is best for both worlds? Is there one for what I want? I have a 44 front end. So it has 4.56 gears to? I have a NP 435 with a twin stick dana 20. Will changes need to be made? Not sure what the steering linkage situation is. Will that have to be changed to? Appreciate it!

Re: lift and rear end gearing trade
3.55s are a little low for 33's. Most folks with 33's find 4.10s to be a good middle ground for wheeling and highway use. If you can used 4wd with your current setup, then your front end has 4.56 gears too and both will need to be regeared. If I were in your shoes I'd just step up to 35" tires. You're set up perfectly for them and you'll spend about as much regearing for 33's.

Re: lift and rear end gearing trade
Sorry Sean. I have not checked this and did not get a notice you replied. I went with 35's.
