WeatherPack connector kits and tools
Iam doing quite a bit of wiring and looking at my plans ideally I would like to have junctions in a couple of places for servicing and just ease of installation. I have been looking at the Delphi WeatherPack kits on Amazon but wanted to post up here to see if anyone had access to these kits or something similar. my budget is tight right now and although I know I would continue to use everything in these kits I could buy a smaller kit now and restock later. I would need the crimper tool as well so that would add about $15 or so to the kit if it has one... Basically iam asking if anyone can get a kit cheaper or at the very least a few connectors and borrow a crimping tool. I know the wire bundles I will be dealing with and know about what i would need to get the job done.
kit i am looking at:

Re: WeatherPack connector kits and tools
You can buy individual connectors and pins at Napa or On Track. Eck has my crimper.

I've got the tool to remove the pins from the housing if you need it.

Re: WeatherPack connector kits and tools
I have been crimping a fair number of pins for other projects lately, mostly 3D printers, and have couple of different crimp tools. I can't part with them right now but thought I'd share opinions if you have to buy one. I have a inexpensive sub-d tool for small wires/pins that I picked up at radio shack that makes great crimps for 24ga and smaller wires. I also have a more expensive ratcheting crimper to cover bigger wires/pins ( http://www.amazon.com/HT-225D-Cycle-Rat ... crimp+tool). It works fine but does compress the base a little bit. Something you will never see once it is in the connector and the crimp is tight so no worries about the wire coming loose. If you can, get some extra pins and practice a couple of times on scrap wire before you start. What you are looking for is a nice tight crimp on the stripped wire and another good crimp around the insulation for strain relief. Be careful you don't get too far forward on the pin when you crimp or you will crush the little tab that acts as a detent when inserted into the connector.
