9" rebuild tech day?
Here's a placeholder and feeler for a tech day. The 9" in Stroppe'd is starting to make stranger sounds. It's always made some noise. Now it's becoming troublesome. So, it's time for a rebuild.
I can host said event at my place in Colorado Springs. We could do some sort of portable, hand held breakfast nourishment.
The catch is I've never rebuilt a 9 and would be looking for a subject matter expert to lead the work.
Anyone interested in leading? Anyone interested in participating?
March is packed full for me. April is looking quite promising.

The Terrible One 1972 Sport uncut, 302, C4 with 1974 column , T shift Dana 20, 3.50 gears w/ limited slip, 1966 U13 Roadster kick panel, and factory power steering.

Re: 9
Interested. I'd like to rebuild mine at some point or at least know how to inspect mine to see if it needs rebuilt.

Re: 9" rebuild tech day?
I don't know how long the rebuild process takes, but I was thinking this could be a max participation event. Maybe get 2-3 axles together and have groups working on each while one overlord, er, instructor talks us through the process while a large drum is pounded in the background.
Perhaps we can get someone to chime in on what all needs to be purchased to make this happen. I'd like to rebuild everything on my axle, minus the brakes. And I'm certain I will be purchasing new gears.

Re: 9" rebuild tech day?
2-3 no way, 1-2 maybe, 1 for sure. Especially if it's a complete rebuild. Stock rebuild or? I can post up what you need.

Re: 9
You'd need a rebuild kit, gears if you're doing them, and wheel bearings. It'd be worth dropping the center section to verify what size carrier bearings you've got. Mine are larger than stock and it caused some consternation and a parts run.

Re: 9
Tools to consider torque Wrench, dial indicator & magnetic stand ,spanner Wrench for pre-load ,slide hammer with hub adapter if the axles haven't been out before. Maybe a extra crush sleeve just in case. A torque multiplier is nice for setting the crush sleeve.

I've got all the tools necessary for the rebuild. Are you going to rebuild the trac lock?

Re: 9
They can be found in 28 spline flavor too. '76-'77 Broncos had the 4-pinion.

Re: 9
Dont waste your time with a regular crush sleeve. Buy the shimmable pack that replaces the crush sleeve. Under hard use and acceleration the crush sleeves can collapse.

Re: 9
Depends on who attends. If we get several folks that know how to do it, then 3-4 is doable. Doing the 9" and D44 on my rig to most of an afternoon with Kinder, Crawlercreations, and Viper present.

Re: 9
I'd love to attend this, I would combine it with a work trip if the date works out.
I never worked on any differentials before, although I destroyed a couple of them :)

I'd love to attend as well, since I plan on replacing my 3.50 Trac-Loc with a Detroit and different gears in the near-ish future.

Re: 9
The 9in is the easiest to set-up for sure. No need to press anything apart to change shim packs.

Re: 9
I'm in, I'll pull my carrier out this weekend to figure out what size bearings I need. Where's the best place you guys have found to get a rebuild kit?
Can we get Chorizo buritos? Those are the best.

Re: 9" rebuild tech day?
Most kits are good quality, I've used G2 from 4wheelparts, Yukon & USA standard gear.

Re: 9
I just moved to Denver about 6 months ago and just found this group. I have a 1973 Bronco but it is still in Wisconsin in my storage unit. I have never rebuilt a 9" but would love to come if you are still going to make this happen.
