Solid foundation for LUBR street rig

Postby Rox Crusher » Fri Apr 10, 2015 6:11 pm

Getting the itch to build a dedicated off roader.

Would be interested in a good / solid rolling chassis with decent body.

Preferably without motor and transmission.

Gonna take my time looking for the right deal and would appreciate any leads you might have.

Thanks in advance !

Probably 4k at the very top, but it would have to be pretty spectacular

I'm thinking more of a cheap and slow build

And the other consideration is to quit doing anything to make my current one nicer, use it for dedicated wheeler......and hunt for a more suitable rig to build a super nice OBDII LUBR

Any opinions ?

Can you define decent body for your dedicated off roader?

What kind of trails are you looking to run? I'd hate to see your current one beat up, but if you're just doing mild to moderate stuff it's perfect. Spring Creek is about the toughest trail near the metro area and can be pretty easily done with a rear locker, decent driving and 35's.

I want to be able to do things like elevator at MOAB and other more challenging trails

And I feel a bit guilty putting dings in Ol blue.

But the more I think about it, I'm thinking it would be more prudent and cost effective to go further with it as a wheeler.

It already has a decent body / paint. It would probably take 10k + to get it in super nice shape again as the cowl, front door posts, and maybe firewall need replaced.

Reasonably straight and not a rust bucket.

I would be thinking of putting a DIY paint job on it, body armour, and not worry if it gets dinged and scratched.

i would stop with the blue one. you are already attached to it too much so when you get to cutting on it and then beating on it you are gonna have a hard time.

The cut one with the vectors is the one that got me looking at vectors. It is perfect other than the cut fenders. It is all original but has been repainted.

The uncut one is just being finished by Drew Peroni. Trying to find out the details.

Hey now. You have to think of rust as jettisonable ballast. If it falls off on the trail you probably don't need it anyway.

I'll sell you my 79. It's already got a lot of goodies done to it. Would be easy to dove tail it front and rear. Perfect wheelbase for wheeling around here.

I used Reliable Carriers shipping my Porsche back to my father in Ohio. Good price, quick, not much communication though. It was "off season" for the guy linked above, I guess the private guys don't run during the "winter" due to the lack of business.

Good luck!
