Post NON Power Front Disc Brakes
I'm getting ready to do the Chevy disc brake swap up front on my Dana 30.

My question(s) is(are)....

Is there a Master Cylinder(make/model/year) that's compatible that I can use that helps the braking similarly with out going to a Power Brake setup? Disk/Drum non power

Also, I'm going to be adding a C4 instead of my crap manual, should I just go with power brakes and be done with it?
Disk/drum power

I'm trying to go with just the
$MC
vs.
$brake booster,$bracket, $MC, $brake lines from MC to $proportioning valve.

Any suggestions, personal experience, or smart apple comments welcome! thumbs up

mine has been manual chevy disc/drum for years. Always has stopped great. Im unsure of what master cylinder is on it. It's an odd one as the lines are out the passenger side of the M/C.

I run the stock M/C with the drum brake check valve removed so the front brakes don't drag. It is easy to do, remove the front brake line from the M/C, use a wood screw and spin it into the opening in the line output and yank. That will pull the tapered seat. Behind it is the check valve. Just remove it and re-install the tapered seat and line. My brakes work well enough to lock up 37s. Google master cylinder check valve removal to see pictures.

I used manual disk/drum brakes until just a few years ago. The stock Bronco master cylinder works well because it has a small 1" bore. No need for a proportioning valve.

The only times I wished I had a booster was crawling down very steep stuff. On the road it worked very well.

PERFECT!!!

That's exactly what I wanted to hear!
I do remember reading something about removing that Brake Check valve and I think I'm going to go that route.

My Bronco will mostly be an Asphalt Assault Vehicle anyway!

Thanks for the advice!
Mike

I am running the Toms Bronco front disk kit on both of my broncos. 1 is a 30 and the other is a 44. No problems here. Stock MC and no power .

Micphatmac, I'm also running the same setup as crawlercreations... works great. Let me know if you need a recently rebuilt c4. I just now posted the info in the classifieds.

My 66 has the Chevy Brakes (Non Power) and the camper special MC. If you are interested in how that feels your more than welcome to take it for a spin. Shoot me a message if your interested. My 74 has hydroboost and Chevy Discs if you want to compare.

If you are going Ford parts for the conversion you can swap to the T-Bird calipers to get a little more power. They have a bigger piston.

That said, I still went to power brakes and while the discs alone were a huge improvement the junkyard hydroboost is MUCH better still.

So, what year T-Bird can I get the calipers off of? They will fit the Chevy backing plate?

Doesn't fit the Chevy backing plate. Ford uses a totally different caliper mount.
