ZF shifter. Is something missing here?
I have noticed my ZF shifter has a lot of up & down play in it. It was a blind Craigslist buy, from Colorado Springs. Zac picked it up, for me, years ago. Its clean, inside & out, and I think in very good shape.
I pulled the shifter out, and it really looks like there should be some kind of spacer on the posts on the front & back of the shifter. There are marks like something was there once.

Also, what kind of grease should I put back into the ball & socket joint at the bottom of the shifter?

Re: ZF shifter. Is something missing here?
Yes- you are missing two white plastic pieces that fit your shifted in snug. If those are missing, make sure you also have the spring under that top section that created tension between shifts.
I didn't add any grease to the ball but maybe I should've? Haven't had issues. Do yourself a favor and order the Redline MT 90 oil and do it right the first time when you fill it with tranny oil.

Re: ZF shifter. Is something missing here?
Awesome, thanks. No spring. What you see is what I got. A screw was missing from the top plate, so I've been suspicious of it all a long.
I'm going to start with cheap oil, till I know it's ok. If it's junk, I don't need to be throwing expensive oil into it. Assuming its good, I will swap it out with the Redline stuff.

Re: ZF shifter. Is something missing here?
Anyone have an extra spring?
Looks like they might be harder to find than the inner boot & guide blocks.

Re: ZF shifter. Is something missing here?
OK, next stupid question.
Has anyone got a replacement slave cylinder that needed longer bolts. Otherwise it looks the same.
Bendix #12592, I think crossreferenced from a 95 F250?
I'll just get longer bolts, but wondered what you all thought.
Bendix on right, old one on left.

Re: ZF shifter. Is something missing here?
My old one looks like one for a 1990 5.8 F250. Should I go ahead and run the newer style one?

Re: ZF shifter. Is something missing here?
There is an older style & newer style ZF slave & m/c. They are a matched set, so I ordered them from Carquest. I'll have the slave tomorrow & the m/c next week.

Re: ZF shifter. Is something missing here?
I used Lithium grease for that socket at the bottom of the shifter. It's what I had laying around.
If you need the number of the guy who rebuilt mine in the 'Springs, maybe he'd have extra parts you need?? Or know where to get them.

Re: ZF shifter. Is something missing here?
Crawler is sending me a whole shifter. Hopefully, I'll be good with that. If it has problems after that, I'll get that info. Thanks.
