OMG, it's decision time
As some of you may know, I'm planning a move out of state soon. I have 3 Broncos, a 39 Plymouth 5 window coupe, and 2 modern daily drivers. I have to sell one of my Broncos. Either my 66 or my 72 Explorer Sport. Both are 'rare' and I love both. I can't decide which to keep. I'm posting this thread to get opinions, and also, open the floor to offers. Message me or call me if you are interested in either one. I'll do my best to offer every detail I know about them. I'm going to do my best to list them below, but I'm sure I'll forget something. I'm going to sell one, I don't know which. I could be happy keeping either. Even if you aren't interested in purchasing, tell me which one you would keep & why. This decision will depend on the offers I receive (vs what I've paid) combined with what my gut tells me to do (that seems to change every 2-3 minutes). My early build (October 65) 66. Budd tub. Very little rust, needs drivers floor pan re-replaced. Needs driver's door skin (have a Dynacorn skin), driver's quarter & rocker need work. Hood is the only sheet metal that MAY not be correct. Grill pictured is not on the truck anymore, have a good eyebrow grill that needs body work. Truck should be Caribbean Turquoise, not white. Bench & bulk head were not original, have sold both. Warn winch & front bumper not included. Needs fuel pump, and brakes done. Runs when gas poured into carb, but won't stay running Parts I've accumulated to do a factory correct resto: 66 front buckets & 67 rear bench, both are from Don Allison's yard, need redone. Oil bath air cleaner & all brackets & stickers Very rare sheetmetal driver's air box & repop'd air box to hood seal & cowl seal 2 sets of correct 66 only vac wipers (have spot for helper arm, but no arms) Early 66 3 speed, correct linkage, & shifter arm Extra early 66 t-case 2 correct 66 "long" t-case shifters, 2 shift knobs 5 correct 66/67 steel wheels Correct front & rear bumpers- painted, need straightened - from DA's yard. 66 jack 66 tail light buckets & lenses 66 Dana lock out hubs 66 horn button Correct mirror head (glass mount) Jack mount sticker 1 set 66 seat belts (rough condition) & 1 set of 67 seat belts (very close to correct, better shape than 66 belts), both sets should be rewebbed 1 set factory 66 coil springs Extra steering linkage, radiator, gas pedal Correct tail gate spare mount 20150922_180152.jpg viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8062&hilit=6672 Explorer Sport. One of 141 Candyapple red Explorer Sports, original paint. Unicorn truck. Almost all 72 E/S were Dakota Tan or a copper root beer metallic. Lots of talk of possible red ones & possible blue ones, but very few known. Needs outer rockers, floor pans, door post skins & typical inner fenders replaced. Have deluxe Marti w/ framed window sticker, build info, etc. Have a nice set of hub caps, 4 turn P/S box fresh rebuild, C4, auto column & t-case, decent used wiper cover. Also truck runs when gas poured into carb, but won't stay running. Truck was parked after hunting trip, broke something in the rear diff, need brakes done, M/C empty. 20160524_174207.jpg 72ES Marti.jpg viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8431&hilit=explorerCross posting in Broncos for sale.

Re: OMG, it's decision time
So I'll start.
The 66 is awesome because it's a Budd body, all the super-hard-to-find stuff has been found. Not a great driver, 170 I-6 won't like modern highway speeds. Huge, frame off resto required to make it right.
The 72 is awesome because of the rare color & original paint. More rust repair required, but less overall work to make an awesome driveable, patina truck (stock height or possibly a LUBR). V8 will make a better driver. V8 LUBRs are where the $ is. I'd probably keep it 3 on the tree, but the C4 would be nice & very marketable.

Re: OMG, it's decision time
My opinion would be to keep the 72 and that would also be the one I'd make you an offer on if I also wanted to get divorced before I even got married. I personally don't have the same infatuation with the '66 original restore stuff so that's how I'm basing my opinion. My .02.

Re: OMG, it's decision time
If I would come across both of these broncos in a for sale lot somewhere, I think I'd also be mostly interested in the '72. When/if I get serious about acquiring a restomod project I am wanting a V8, 3 on the tree uncut rig. With your expertise in body work, what needs replaced is less of a concern.
There are folks in the club who know far more about what's selling and what's not. I hope it doesn't come down to whichever one you can sell.

Re: OMG, it's decision time
I was brought up around factory correct GTO restos. That is why the weirdness of the 66 was exciting. It has a new home, it appears. You all will approve. He has my same vision for the truck.
Moving to Carson City area soon. Gunnison has run its course, my career is at a unsatisfying dead end. Family, and opportunity is available in NV. After 22 years here, it's time. I was only supposed to be here for a ski season.

x3. I'd keep the '66 unless you're going to wheel it.

Re: OMG, it's decision time
It's definitely time. I've had reasons to leave for 10 years, but also reasons keeping me here. There is really no reason to stay now. It's not an easy place to make it.
I'm still going to hang around the forum, and hopefully catch up with everyone in Moab, and the Rubicon occasionally.

Re: OMG, it's decision time
Thanks, I noticed Virginia City when looking at real estate listings for the area, not far from where I hope to end up.
I'm on Rockcrawler Classifieds on Facebook, and there seems to be a lot of stuff for sale from that area. In fact when I was there this winter, I bought a Lock Rite for my D44 from a guy with a pretty well built FJ. And the real estate agent who showed me around has an old S10 Blazer on 40's. So I'm guessing there are some trails around there.
Almost every house has either a 3 car garage or a shop out back, or both. While browsing real estate listings, I found some 1400 sq ft homes with 3 car garages. Just about what I need.

Re: OMG, it's decision time
Sounds exciting Chad. I wish you all the luck. You'll be missed but you were out in that Gunni island anyways. Hope we can do better about organizing a club trip to your area in the near future.
Best of luck.
