July 20-23 Wheeling
Folks, I am looking to put together a little wheeling event over these three/four days.
My initial thoughts are something like meet up/camp at Holy Cross on Thursday evening, get up and run Holy Cross early Friday. Once off the trail, drive down to the BV area.
Then meet up Friday evening and camp vicinity of Iron Chest/Grizzly Lake. Get up Saturday and run one/both of them. When done, relocate vicinity Carnage Canyon/Chinamans Gulch.
Sunday get up and maybe two groups for Chinamans and Carnage. Once done, farewells @2 or 3 and off we go...
If we had enough built/crazy guys I'm down with Holy Cross/Carnage/Penrose....
I'm flexible in the "where/when" within reason, but I cannot change the dates as I start a new contract the 24th.
Thoughts? Joe

My rig isn't capable of some of these trails but I would love to do Chinamans and holy cross again
I'll keep my eye in this thread to see how it develops

Re: July 20-23 Wheeling
Gentlemen, it seems like I'm the only one who could take off early, so I'm cutting this down to just 2.5 days.
BLUF: Camp Friday near Holy Cross, wheel Holy Cross Saturday, relocate and wheel Chinamans on Sunday, go home after.
Since we're less than a week out, here's the plan:
I'm going to show up Friday and camp someplace on Homestake Rd., on the National Forest land. I expect to land there about 3PM and set up camp. I think I'm going to look for camping about 3 miles down the road. My Wife and grandson, as well as eldest daughter and son-in-law should be there as well. Kevin is coming and bringing his kids as well.
Saturday I'd like to be ready to go and hit the trail by about 0830. Hopefullly there won't be too many folks up there. Once done, pack up and head out to camp at the base of Carnage/Chinamans. Probably stop for supplies in Buena Vista.
Camp overnight and thinking of hitting Chinamans on Sunday about 0830 as well.
Sound good? Joe

Have fun on chinamans. That area got hammered last night with tons of rain and hail. Bet there is a ton of erosion there. They had to plow mud off the highway.

Re: July 20-23 Wheeling
You guys missed a good time. It ended up with just me and Kevin H. there, with the support crew... Started off a little shaky. We took off for the trailhead about 845 Saturday morning, got 1/2 mile out and my new fuel pump (with AN fittings...) decides to crap out. So Kevin towed me back to camp and my son-in-law and I ran into Leadvillle. Got all the replacement parts I needed and got the buggy back up about 1230. Headed out and no issues the rest of the trip. Made it up to the top, took the kidos for a hike about the historic site, played on Cleveland Rock a bit and back to camp by 400. Weather was beautiful Saturday so we stayed there off Homestake Rd. Got up Sunday and drove to Chinamans, arriving about 0930. Ran through the trail till we hit a group of s---l---o---w Jeeps at Whale Rock. Waited for them (while eating lunch) to finish, played around ourselves and then turned around to beat them back out. Hung out on Carnage exit watching some other guys play. The exit has gotten worse, not surprising... All in all, great weekend. Joe
