Post Gear oil odor
I had an 'empty' D44 diff to move here to NV. I loaded it into my F250 bed and left the truck at a friend's house for about 6 weeks. I picked it up a few weeks ago and drove it out here. The diff leaked into the bed of the truck. I used kitty litter to soak up the oil, and then used a purple 'Super Clean' and scrubbed & rinsed out the bed. It still stinks of used gear oil. I'm going to go after it with the purple stuff again, full strength this time. Any other suggestions? It's horrible, I feel bad even loading my dogs back there.

Fear oil! Ha! The only thing that I know of is air & time. Make sure nothing absorbed the oil or it’s hiding in the cracks.

More cat litter and leave on there for a week - then time. I know it blows around and out but only way I found to get gear or motor oil soaked up and out.

Thanks, I soaked & rinsed it again today. It's better but still there. I'll try more kitty litter, I think its in the seam between the front of the bed & the bed floor.

Blast it with brake cleaner. A whole can should do it.

Name brand spray on degreaser(not the cheap stuff from Wally World). Gunk brand degreaser comes in a gel, foaming, and heavy duty. I have no experience with the gel but, the foaming and heavy duty are twice as efficient as the cheap stuff. Also Berrymans B12 cuts through that stuff really fast. The Berrymans comes in a spray can (carb cleaner) or a bottle of liquid. I like the purple stuff for general cleaning but, it can't touch the real degreasers/parts cleaners in my opinion.
Mark.

When you’re done it’ll be the cleanest truck bed around.
