Post Headlights cut out
My headlights will shut on and off on their own after they have been on a while. The switch feels fairly hot to the touch, could that be my problem?? It's been happening for a LONG time, but since I rarely drive at night, it's never been a priority, but maybe it's time.

What say you? Replace the switch? Are there more HD switches out there?

J.D.

Headlight relays are the answer.

So use a relay to take the full amps so the switch only sees low amps?

I have an extra relay or two for off-road lights. Would that suffice?

Yep. You need 2 relays, one for low beam and one for high beam.

Sweet, thanks! My dimmer switch needs replaced since it only works on High beams, so maybe that's part of the reason the switch over-heats. Maybe time to do it all!

The swiches are a poor design. I've never seen a stock Bronco that could run the high beams for more than 30 minutes without tripping the thermal breaker in the switch. The relays will really brighten your lights too.

Thanks for the wiring diagram, I was going to add the relays to my new Centech harness, before installing it. This makes it easy.

I have this same issue in my 79. I figured mine was caused by the h4 conversion with 95/110watt bulbs.

yea i had to replace my switch 3 years ago as it was having issues in the dimmer circuit, when i did it i also did the h4 conversion with the high output IPF bulbs, and wired in relays, one of the best things i've done to the truck

Good to hear. I have one headlight that the adjusting screw is broken. I should replace that so it does not shoot down at the ground.
